A little ways up the mountain from our dou there is a large oak with long strong roots that grasped at and through the soil and stone beneath it.
And just between two of it's strongest roots there is a large hole hidden slightly by wild yam and sassafras leaves.
And inside of this hole in the tree a whole underworld his hidden from the treacherous overworld.
This is the warren for the jackalopes.
Deep inside of this warren all the does are a buzz with digging, autumn seems to always closing in on them not to mention the kits they had from earlier this year are growing fast and are taking up space faster.
One doe in particular is pawing frantically at on side of the new tunnels in the burrow pushing clumps of dirt aside as she excavates a new plot in the warren.
Behind her two kits are romping around chasing eachother to and fro inside the burrow.
This doe is quite visibly the mother of the joyous two.
Her pelt was a soft shale grey with flecks of umber here and there with white tips on each ear.
Her kits both had these tips but one was her shale grey while the other was a tan-ish grey.
These lucky few were Wispcloud and her kits Greycloud and Littlecloud.
