Halloween was pretty fun!
It took a little bit of planning, but everything worked out in the end. First off, Halloween was pushed forward (to 10/30) because it was going to rain on the 31st. That wasn't a big deal though, just an insignificant detail that I happen to remember.
We had informed our parents of our plan (more or less) and planned to walk around the neighborhood until 8 P.M. or so.
But the issue was that we didn't want people to know that I was going to Lin's house, and to make matters worse, he usually walked home with a large pack of people who went the same way. The only solution to this problem was to either wait until everyone dispersed, or leave before anyone else started gathering.
Not wanting to waste any time, the two of us, bolted the second class ended, running through the crowd and out the door. Luckily, only maybe like one person who usually walked with Lin saw us, but I don't think he really cared.
When we got to his house, I felt really really scared.
Why?
I had this sinking feeling that his parents would have something against high school relationships and hate/judge me because of that.
His younger brother opened the door, who I already knew, so he was excited to see me (if I remember correctly), while the youngest continued to ask me who I was in an attempt to confirm my identity.
That was when I saw their photos on the fireplace mantle.
"Oh my god, I've seen your mom before!" I shouted in surprise.
"Wait really?" Lin asked.
"Yes! I swear I've seen her at like house parties and stuff! With your brothers! I guess you never went? I don't know, but I'm definitely remembering your mom getting annoyed with your brothers."
This fact made me feel a little better. That meant that his mom should somewhat know who I am.
In addition to that, my mom had told me that Lin's mom knew my grandpa (they used to live in my neighborhood) and they were both obsessed with poetry. I bet she had heard things about me from my grandpa.
When his mom came downstairs (after like ten minutes O_O long time) I tried my best not to freak out and sustain the smile on my face. She told me that she knew my parents and my grandparents and immediately told Lin he should be learning Chinese like me (she actually said something about learning from "Wen Bo Jie Jie" or something, which was VERY weird because I'm younger and even so we're about the same age??).
So we went upstairs to his room to hang out because his youngest brother wanted to play video games on the computer. His room was kinda messy (not trying to be mean) but the chevron curtains were nice.
When his parents got back, I had eaten pretty much an entire bag of espresso bark (which my friend had given me because it was too sweet). Maybe it was two bags. In fact, there was so much sugar that I was suffering from a sugar crash and exhausted.
Despite that, Lin and I left the house and decided to go pay Benjamin a visit because he said he had free candy so why not? We also made plans to go visit Salad afterwards since everyone was in the same neighborhood.
The walk was enjoyable. The weather was perfect and breezy...if only I weren't having a sugar crash in the middle of that.
The two of us walked across the neighborhood to Benjamin's house. I tried to take some of the candy they were going to give away but Lin wouldn't let me, due to my sugar crash.
In the end, Benjamin let me take some of his beef jerky, so that was good enough.
Sadly, SOMEONE wouldn't pick up the phone (Salad) so we couldn't go to her house (actually there was just bad reception), so we ended up heading back to Lin's house.
My mom asked me where I was and I tried to leave but it was too late; Lin's mom had invited my entire family over for dinner. I told her that my parents already had dinner with some other friends, but she wouldn't take no for an answer.
My mom agreed to come over and told me to eat since I didn't eat anything except candy that day.
I was happy they were going to come, but also somewhat concerned...because I didn't exactly tell them that Lin and I were dating, I just said we were good friends now ^-^;;.
While I hid downstairs in the basement with Lin and his two younger brothers, our parents chatted upstairs for a few minutes. We left around 8:30, since the day after was a school day.
Overall, it was a fun experience!
I learned a few things too:
don't eat too much espresso bark chocolate if you're about to go walk around a lot.
