Today's the day I guess... Today I set out for the Silmur Tribe. I could not get Aisling out of my head... she seemed so familiar yet so different at the same time. I know that the feeling isn't romantic but almost like a caring big brother thing? Kenna stirred on the bed opposite mine. Elder Moanna brought her here late last night after doing sleep thing on her... And that's why you never mess with an Elder. They may seem frail but they are incredibly powerful in their old age.
"Good Morning" I said sitting up.
Kenna blinked once, twice, three times before looking at me. "Shoot" She mumbled sleepily.
I slipped on a t-shirt "What?" I struggled not to laughing at her face of shock.
She shook her head as if trying to rid herself of an inappropriate thought "It's nothing"
"Obviously not" I pointed out.
"Pineapple off" She retorted sitting up.
"You have such a way with words" I laughed at her.
She glared at me "Get out of here"
I nodded not wanting to be around when she got changed into the clothes Moanna left her. Outside the door a guy stood with his back to the wall. He turned when he heard me leave the room. He stuck out his tanned arm "Hello, Guardian Leith"
I shook his hand "Hello..."
"Guardian Tyson from the Silmur Tribe" He supplied.
"What can I do for you Guardian Tyson?" I dropped his hand like it was a hot potato... Something about him rubbed me up the wrong way... if you get what I mean.
"I volunteered to be your male assistant for your journey" He explained. One word kept playing in my mind. Why?
"I see, and who is the female assistant?" I have no clue why we needed a male and female assistant. That tradition always seemed a bit odd to me.
Guardian Tyson seemed to think for a minute "A girl with blonde hair and brown eyes. Unusual for someone in a Tribe"
I knew who he was talking about. Pavarti. Did she want it to be awkward between us? I hadn't seen her since the kiss and who know what is going to happen now. Will we pretend nothing ever happened? Tyson cleared his throat "May I be the first to congratulate you on your wedding" The words themselves seemed perfectly innocent but the way he said them make them sound as if there was a double meaning to them.
I ignored his words as a female cleared her throat behind me. Tyson's mouth moved in shock as if he was trying to form words that wouldn't escape his lips. "Close your mouth... It's rude" The familiar voice of Kenna scolded.
I spun around to face her. Her fiery red hair was flowing down her back and her amber eyes shone with a certain determination that I had never seen before. "I'm ready"
"You sure?" Something about the way she picked at the sleeve of her long sleeve cotton shirt made me feel un-easy.
Her determination faltered for a second before she nodded. "Yeah"
"Umm... Who is she?" Tyson had stopped acting like a fish and had joined into the conversation.
"Kenna" She smiled at him.
He nodded ignoring her outstretched hand "And why was she in your bedroom? You're due to be married in a couple of weeks" He thought I was... Oh!
I saw Kenna roll her eyes "You really think I would... sleep with that?"
Again he ignored her "Well?"
"Have you read the Book of Legends..." I asked him. Kenna shot me a sideways glance.
"Yes"
"Well..." I prompted.
"Is she..." Tyson's eyes widened. I nodded cutting him off before he gave away too much information. Kenna did not need to know the details just yet.
Kenna opened her mouth to speak and luckily Tyson seemed to catch on quickly and cut in before she said anything "Let's go Guardian Leith, the waggon is waiting."
I grabbed Kenna's arm and dragged her outside before she could do anything. She twisted and struggled trying to escape my grasp until a cheer made her freeze. A young boy beamed at me "Guardian Leith" He gushed "You're so brave. When I'm older I want to be just like you"
I chuckled gently "I'm honoured that someone like you wants to be like me" He giggled before running off to his mother. It was moments like this that I lived for. All I had ever know was rejection and it warmed my heart to see someone so accepting.
"Leith?" Pav said appearing in front of me. Her blonde hair was tied up in a neat ponytail and she was wearing a similar top to Kenna.
"Pav..."
"Come on... up you come" Tyson stood there offering his hand to Kenna to help her up into the wagon. I wanted to laugh when she turned up her nose at his offer and clambered onto the wagon by herself.
Pav laughed at Kenna's behaviour "She's a firecracker isn't she?"
Tyson bristled up at this "Do not speak like that half-breed"
"I wasn't speaking to you" She retorted.
"Just get in and show some respect to the people that are better than you"
Pav glared at him "Look Pav, let's just get going" I tried to reason.
She sighed "Fine" Slowly she pushed past him. As she passed me I thought I saw a sliver of a tear appearing in her eyes. She rushed past me before I could do anything. When she went to climb into the wagon Tyson did not offer to help her instead he walked around the other-side of the wagon ignoring her. I climbed up next to Tyson who was sitting in the driver side.
Tyson grinned at me before clicking his tongue. The horses set off in a steady pace away from the place I call home...
