Chapter 8 - Leith/Pavarti

Life has it's tricky moments with it's difficult choices. Like when I found out Inru only has a couple of months left before it becomes a desolate planet devoid of any life. I still made the decision to marry Gaia. Why? It's the weird way fate works isn't it...

Hope is always needed in the most desperate of times. So when as the heat gets worse and a planet full of life begins to die, the start of some thing supposedly beautiful will outshine even the worse outcome. It raises peoples spirits made them want to fight when all hope is lost.

"But..." Pav stood there dumbfounded "I thought... you...."

"Approved?" I supplied "Well I guess I changed my mind".

To make people fight you have to challenge their senses. Rebuild the fire that feeds their soul with warmth. Even if it you end up a victim. for others you have to give your everything.

"But... your due to be married... and Inru..."

I shot her a fake grin. "As you said yourself why should I do as the Elders say?. If Inru only has a few months left I want to go down with a fight" It made me happy when her brown eyes filled with a fierceness that she lost long ago.

"What are you going to do then" She took my cold hand in her warm one.

"Well we need to visit the Merai Tribe for Kenna and there we can train her. It would be the best place as she will be among experts"

She looked confused for a second "Then why were you chosen if she controls fire? You control water"

I shrugged "I honestly have no idea" Lie. I do know, not that Pav needs to know that.

"I can't believe we are talking about you standing up your bride just because you..." .Kenna scream pierced through her words. Instantly I turned and ran. What ever Pav wanted to say can wait.

We found Kenna kneeling on the forest floor, sobbing into her hands. Tyson stood there staring at the poor girl, confusion filled his dark eyes. "I did nothing I swear..."

Pav ignored him, rushing straight to Kenna. Kenna adjusted her position so she was sobbing into Pavs shoulder repeating over and over "Leave me alone"

"What did you do?" Pav growled at him.

"I did nothing"

She snorted "Obviously!"

"I honestly did nothing!" Tyson clenched his fists in anger and he made to move forward. In one swift motion I blocked his path.

"What happened?" I asked him.

"I don't know Guardian. Honestly. She just started screaming at me". I grounded my teeth in anger, an old habit I couldn't break out of.

Taking a step closer to him I tried again "And why did she start screaming?"

"I don't know..."

I grabbed his throat and lifted him in the air. "What Happened!?" He flopped around like a fish gasping for air "I asked what happened?". I was in his face now but I don't care. He did something and now he is paying.

"Leith" Kenna shouted between sobs. I let go and he slumped to the floor.

"What did he do?"

"He did nothing" she stated standing up shakily "Memories of the past were taking over my brain! And... And they brought back feelings I thought I had buried long ago. I just want to be alone"

"You told me you would be okay Kenna!" I practically shouted at her. I was beyond angry

Pav stepped protectively in front of her "What has she done?"

Kenna pushed Pav away "I can fight my own battles. I didn't expect to.."

"Didn't expect to what?"

"Leith!" Pav screamed at me "What is wrong with you?"

You know what.... I can't deal with this now" I turned to Tyson who was back on his feet "Saddle up we're leaving"

"Yeah that's right, we're leaving" Pav said grabbing Kenna's arm.

"Where do you think your going?" I shouted after them but it was too late. Pav and Kenna had disappeared into the trees.

"Should we follow them?" Tyson suggested

I shrugged "They will be back"

Pavarti's POV

.

If he thinks we are going back. He is dead wrong. There is no way we will ever go back. Why he blew up back there? I have no idea. I often saw him angry but never this angry. Kenna had done nothing wrong!

"Umm Pav?" Kenna said picking herself up after tripping on a branch.

I turned to her "Yeah?"

"Maybe we should go back" She suggested.

I raised my eyebrow at her "So he can shout at you again?"

"What are we going to do now then?"

Shrugging, I continued walking "I guess we head to the nearest rebel town"

"Rebel? Town?"

"Yeah, as you can tell, we don't have much technology. We did use to be like Earth but we ended up destroying it all." I explained.

She stumbled to catch up with me so I slowed down a bit so she could catch up "Why? How do you survive? I couldn't survive with out all my gadgets"

"Easy, just don't think about them things. Anyway as I was saying The rebels didn't like our new lifestyle and left. They all moved together. Now they are something to fear."

"I'll bare it in mind" She shot me a small smile.

"Did you know I'm a product of rebels? That's why Tyson hates me. He fears me" I sighed, it was about time she knew.

She took a deep breath "Really? But the people of the High.... whatever Tribe accepted you"

"Only because of my Father" I told her.

Her large amber orbs shone with curiosity but I wasn't about to tell her about my arrogant father, not after everything he has done. "Okay" She seemed to sense my hesitant attitude to this subject "Tell me more about these Rebel Towns".

I was glad of the subject change and told her all I could about the war that destroyed our technology, about how we learnt to live off the land and how Inru is a dying planet. I was happy to actually be of use to someone.

"You know Kenna" I blurted out "The nearest Rebel Town is where I was born"

"That's cool" She enthused.

"I guess" I smiled at her enthusiasm. It was weird how she dealt with her problems. She just forgot about them and acted like they never happened. Though what will happen when she runs out of room in the dark recesses of her mind? She will explode... just like Inru will...
