Her first method of kicking up above
_
Chapter 2Four woke us up at three in the morning by banging something on the stairs. He told everyone that he wanted them in the Pit in two minutes. I was officially grumpy as I ran with the initiate group.
He then explained that there are two stages of training, the first is physical and the second mental. I yawned and rubbed my eye as I thought to myself that I wasn't even ready for stage zero, waking up at this hour. Eric caught my eye from behind Four, sitting against a cement block. He explained that we'll be trained separately from the dauntless born but well be ranked together. Rankings will determine what job's we get, and also who gets cut. As Eric so nicely put it. We'll be factionless if we don't do well. I rubbed my face worried.
A day had gone by before the actual initiation. The scoreboards had gone up like Four had told us and training had started. I made sure in fitness that I ran ahead of the class with Four, Edward and Peter, I exercised fast and I pushed my body to its limits. I loved wearing the sports bra combination with the sweats, because it was comfortable.
Four started us off with guns where Peter showed off like a fool shooting with one hand and almost taking my nose off. Eric had made him drop and do seventy right then and there. Tris was battling a bit but I tried to give her some advice when I could. I had kind of developed a good muscle memory so I had it at first try, although my shoulder was screaming in pain due to the backfire. I grinned at Tris as she was really releasing some attraction vibes towards Four.
After lunch we went into a bit of boxing training where I found myself releasing some of the grief in my body, I didn't know I had gathered. I hit, and kicked in a medley of combinations. Eric had come in to check up on us after a while of being in a meeting. He walked up and down the aisle of initiates slowly, making each and every one of us think he was a predator waiting for his prey.
"What are you doing initiate?" The amused voice of Eric asked from behind me.
At that current moment I had switched to kicks as Four had instructed, but instead of those over the top professional kicks Four showed us, I was doing modest but powerful ones. The casual kick upwards and release. Eric was supposed to be watching the fights that we're happening not so far away from me.
"I'm training, what else does it look like I'm doing?" I replied kicking higher, imagining it was his head.
I don't know why but something about Eric grated at my very being; He brought something forward in me that released the fiercest of the fierce.
"That's not how you kick initiate. If you were in a real fight, your opponent would easily incapacitate you or you would break something." He was antagonizing me, simply by rolling his eyes.
I pulled a face childishly from my position in front of the dummy.
"I'd rather opt for safe execution in practice than breaking something. I'm simply warming up." I snapped at him before actually kicking like Four taught, albeit sloppy, it worked out.
The leader stood for a little while at my punching bag, staring at me almost calculatingly before leaving for another initiate probably to hound him or her. It seemed like he wanted to do something with me as a lesson but he knew that I wouldn't give him the satisfaction of reacting the way he wanted me to. I caught Tris' smirk from next to me.
"You're going to tell me what that smirk was about later." I told her, kicking again in exertion.
The whole time we spent kicking, punching and etcetera, I couldn't stop thinking about the fact that I was a Divergent and how it seemed that, that specific reason was why it made excelling at this so easy for me. I had no choice but to be good at it if I wanted to live.
