I let out a sigh of reverence as my Erudite controllers congratulated me and injected something into my arm.
Eric didn't let me out of his sight after our night together. It didn't bother me as I was genuinely enjoying the attention. He walked up to me grabbing my hand and kissing my forehead.
"I'm proud of yoy my sunshine. You made it in." He whispered against my forehead.
I smiled up at him. He had been so angry at me, that this was a refreshing change. I sat next to Christina as Eric had to go back into the testing stations.
"You guys are so sappy!" Christina teased.
I blushed.
"So there is definitely going to be a war." Tris told me from her side of the bench.
I looked at her ominously. She told me about what her brother had told her and I was honestly feeling lightheaded.
When all of the initiates had done their tests, we had all piled into the cafeteria. I sat next to Eric quietly and listened in on their conversations. It was all very rowdy, and all they were talking about was the new database they were installing. Boring.
I thought about if I passed, what would I want to work as? I looked to Eric as a leader and noticed him joking about the political alliances. Nope. Not a leader then. My mind went to the guards at the wall, nah. Too much standing. My eyes flickered to Lauren as a trainer and I thought it was a potential. And then my eyes flitted to Four who worked in IT. It was a possibility.
"Why are you so quiet my love?" Eric asked me, the entire table now quiet and looking at me.
I cleared my throat and prepared to answer.
"I'm just thinking about what job I would be most interested in if my ranking was enough for it." I shrugged, eating a potato chip from my plate.
"Based on your Phase one you would be an amazing trainer." Max told me smiling.
I smiled back at him.
"Nevermind that, she should be a leader! She's cut out for it." Lauren exclaimed.
I rubbed my stomach thoughtfully. What would be best for my baby?
"We'll see." I told them.
I didn't miss out on Erics eyes burning into the hand that was on my stomach. He excused himself to go to the infirmary, so I stayed at the table and watched Tris and the gang laugh about whatever they were speaking about.
That night, Tris and I woke up to shuffling feet. Was there a midnight meeting that I missed? The whole initiate sextion was sleepwalking somewhere except for Tris and I. My eyes widened in revelation.
"Tris they're licking Divergents out! We need to act like them!" I hissed at her, scrambling to pull my things on and follow the front line. Tris was not far behind me.
We follwed them, grabbing guns, and getting on a train. We were heading to Abnegation. But where was Eric, the conniving, lying SOB!
Tris finds Four in the ranks and we figure out that he's also a Divergent. I was mega relieved to see that he had folded his fingers over hers.
My shock refused to be seen as I saw my husband standing near the overseers with a similar gun in his hands. I wanted to kill him, but I refused to blow my cover.
Eric sees me, but doesn't do anything, doesn't even look at me. Goood boy. Don't loom at me. I might just kill you on the spot. The idiot starts taunting Four with his gun against his head and that's when Tris and I blow our cover. She shoots my husband in the foot, and I run towards him to see if he's OK.
