I found Tris later that night and explained my whole predicament to her and what happened that morning. She told me that I shouldn't run away from love and that he might even help me get rid of Jeanine. I doubted it, then ranted to her saying that I couldn't embrace someone that tormented my friends.

It was an underhanded excuse, I recognised, but I found that I was fighting for something to use to deny my feelings for Eric. She replied that her mother once taught her that love is one of the most unexpected things but if it treats you well, never let it go. It was wise. I decided then to let life take it's course as I was really tired of fighting. She explained to me what her mother said to her today and how Al basically told her he has a crush on her. I felt bad for the poor gentle giant. She also told me about her schoolgirl crush on Four. I wondered how our lives could have got this bad all in a matter of two months.

Soon enough all our friends walked in and started talking about our Aptitude tests. I knew Tris and I were lying through our teeth but it had to be done. I knew that Christina and Al could tell we were lying as they were previously Candor, but I was grateful that they never called us out on it. I was off my game today because I couldn't take my mind of the picture of a shirtless Eric and how well it suited him.

Later in the night Four came over to reveal our rankings with Max in the Pit.

"If you're ranked above the red line, you'll move onto the second stage of training. If you're below it we won't waste no more time on you. Here are your rankings." Max said pointing to the scoreboard.

I wasn't surprised when I saw myself at number one. My sheer competitiveness refused to allow anything lower than first. Peter was looking stoically at the scoreboard, standing next to me. It raised some caution signs within me.

"I don't mind being second, as long as its to you." He muttered to me, disgustingly as he turned and walked away, plotting.

I stepped to the side wondering what he's planning because right next to my name was Edward. My heart was under strain in worry. I noticed that Tris was twentieth which was good. I really wanted Peter stopped because it was worrying me. Maybe he just did that to unnerve me... Either way, I struggled to sleep.

Once it was nearing bed time, I sprinted to Eric's unit, banging frantically on his front door with my hand, hoping he'll listen to me and help for once. Eric swung open his front door annoyed and as soon as he saw me, he looked for people and pulled me inside.

"Eric, Peter is planning on doing something to Edward you need to intervene he is an absolute psycho and Tris was being threatened by Molly because she wasn't happy-" my words were coming out in a jumbled mess so Eric pulled me towards him and hugged me to calm me down.

I was breathing erratically but his arms worked their magic and soon I was calm and my wet eyes were lulling into a stupor.

"How do you know this Mia, do you have proof?" He asked me concerned, turns out he was listening to every word.

"We saw our rankings and he told me that he didn't mind being second as long as it was to me but Edward was second! Just trust me!" I wailed out uncharacteristically, trying to figure out a way to un-Divergent myself.

He held me tighter. I listened to his erratic heartbeat, I must have scared him in some way. I knew he wouldn't pick my side when it came to Peter. They we're good friends.

"You have no physical proof though?" He asked me reluctant.

I stepped out of his arms and ran my hand through my hair. I saw a half full black mug of coffee on the kitchen counter so I downed it, in an effort to calm my shot nerves. Eric had stared at the action with furrowed eyebrows and a slack jaw before I realised what I did.
