Chapter 1
I heaved myself onto the moving train–noting how being a farmers kid in Amity helped build my arm strength all the whole after helping a fierce Stiff who refused to back down and give up. I already respected her will to succeed.
Running across those tracks gave me a real newfound sense of freedom, something Amity couldn't offer even though they lied to us and said we were free. No amount of vast fields and free roaming space could excuse drugging ones citizens to be happy. My brown hair flapped around my face as I stuck my head outside the open compartment door; I found myself give off a real smile.
"Thank you." The Stiff offered shyly.
She had a real baby face with her eyes being bigger than her face. I smiled kindly at her. She looked as if she was scrutinised for her choice too. Stiffs also don't usually transfer unless something bad happened to them at home. Like Tobias Eaton from about two years ago. Erudite was also sniffing around Abnegation for his choice too.
"Its a pleasure. I'm Maria, but you can call me Mia. I will probably change it though so you don't have to remember it." I told her winking.
"Beatrice." She held her hand out so I shook it.
Another upfront Candor sitting next to us introduced herself as Christina and let us know about how exhilarating that felt. I nodded in greeting and agreement.
"You were pretty prepared out there for this train, wanna tell me how you did it Amity?" She asked me smirking.
"I'm an overachiever." I shrugged, knowing the real reason and smiling because of it.
I knew that my second most dominant part of myself was Dauntless. I used to play around the broken hanger around the corner of the farming grounds, I swung, jumped, leaped, grabbed, catapulted, you name it and yet I never missed. It was like my brain was working at one hundred miles per hour and my reflexes were just as good. I was strong for my stature, being just a few inches over five foot. Christina grinned at me.
"Get ready." Another Dauntless woman told us.
I looked away and noticed someone jump off the train, I immediately stood up looking out onto the roof. They were jumping off the train onto the roof, towards another leader who was too far away to recognise.
"You guys better get a running start and either land on your knees or your back. I'll see you around." I mentioned grinning, taking a running start before catapulting off the train, landing hard on the pad of my shoulder muscle and rolling slightly.
I heaved out a breath grunting, my shoulder throbbing due to impact. That was unnecessary.
"Gnarly Amity!" The same rowdy dark haired Candor I sat next to, helped me up.
I noticed a scratch on the side of my shoulder and brushed the dirt and stone off it. My yellow shirt which was clean, now had grey sand marks smeared across it. I huffed in annoyance. That was also slightly painful. Beatrice and Christina both jumped together, they laughed in pain as they hut the ground. I watched them, waiting for the two to get up and walk with me. They started up behind us.
I walked with the Candor up to two tall Dauntless men. The Candor spoke and everything he said I didn't absorb as I was looking at the taller Dauntless. He was blonde with piercings on his face in a handsome way and tattoos that gave him the extra edge. Something about him made me uneasy though. Like he was dangerous but fun. I watched as the one piercing glinted off the sunlight and slightly blinded me. The cluster of Dauntless initiates took their time to arrive and then even some of them didn't even make it. I stared hard at the ground as the pierced man made his speech to the initiates.
