Amity

Seven months ago, we made it into Amity safely. We were greeted by Johanna Reyes, Amity's representative to the council. She granted us  permission to stay that night, but warned us that the following day the entire Amity community would have to come together and decide if they want to continue to house us here.  Amity tended to our wounds and fed us; I still didnt eat their bread. Tris and I were given a liquid that puts us into a dreamless sleep so we could rest. I couldn't sleep due to the trauma I had been through and Johanna, my motherly figure scolded me. I had to tell her about the pregnancy to allow us all safe passage.

Tris was haunted by dreams of Will, this time in a bed in Amity. She kept the hard drive under her pillow. Tobias came in to check on ud regularly, preferring to go by the name Four while he was in Amity. Tris had cut her hair due to her grieving for her mother. I had to dye my hair back to its brown for safety. Tobias and Caleb, had a small stand-off on their way to the gathering, when Caleb had insinuated that Tobias was too old for Tris.

Tris had been taken aback by the Amity's way of making decisions; each member of the faction had an equal say in everything, and they discuss thoroughly before casting their votes. I was used to it. I explained to her that we were a democracy. Eventually, Amity decided that they will allow all refugees to stay as long as we got rid of our weapons and avoid all conflicts. They also agreed for me to give birth on their land and safe passage for us if we wanted to leave. Tris knew that we we're not good at that, and she had a gun hidden under her mattress just in case.

I was currently in the orchards with my baby girl of one month; Emerlyn Coulter. My pride and joy. She was seated on my lap, just small enough to fit there. She had inherited most of my features; tiny, sassy, and funny. She had Eric's blonde curls though. I've always wondered why he had to gel his hair back. Tris had been sitting with me, watching baby Emery with a keen interest. Four was crazy about Emerlyn. He absolutely loved my little girl. He always volunteered to help out with her. Both of us overhear Johanna and Marcus and another council member, talking in the orchards, so Tris snuck out to follow them. I just listened keenly from behund Tris. Luckily Emery was asleep, so she wouldn't make any noise. They voiced their wondering why Jeanine, the ambitious leader of Erudite, chose to attack when she did.

Marcus said that the reason Jeanine attacked Abnegation was to steal some sensitive information that Abnegation had been trusted with, and he is afraid that if he tells Johanna anything more about it, Jeanine will destroy the information. What information was it? Marcus however, doesn't budge.

Tris and I walked back into the huts where Tobias and Caleb were throwing knives at cheese, Tobias was obviously showing off his skill. Emery immediately woke up, hyper aware of her favourite uncle's voice. By the way Four bristled I knew that Caleb and him were having the big brother talk. My brother dropped his knives the moment I stepped in with Emery and sweeped her out of my arms. She let out a toothless smile and nestled her weak head against gis chest. Four winked at me and I just rolled my eyes, prepping my daughters next feed. Tris went on to tell Tobias what she heard between Marcus and Johanna. Four thought Marcus was lying just to make himself feel important, but Tris disagreed. I handed my brother the bottle and laid against his bed watching my blonde spawn drink. I loved her, really, but damn! I could dislike her at times. Even though I couldn't sleep on some days, she would demand every bit of my attention. I ran myself dry for that little person of mine. I wouldn't have it any other way though.

The next day, while eating a meal, Caleb was giving Tris a lesson on the farming techniques that Erudite developed for Amity, and Tris is struck by how dependent all the factions had been on Erudite. I explained to her that the only way we could survive nowadays was through Erudite's developments. This world would be unsustainable without them. Tris finally told Caleb the three factions she had shown aptitude for during her test—Dauntless, Abnegation, and Erudite. Caleb was surprised that someone could test into three factions. I just smiled. My baby had been hijacked once again by my brother, so I had a bit of a break. Tris explained the other unusual things we could do, like alter simulations with our minds when we are in them. Tobias walked in with a squirming Emerlyn, upset about some kind of meddling on Amity's part that has created conflict. My baby was having the usual temper fit so I grabbed her and started tossing her uo and down gently to get her to stop focusing in the thing that had annoyed her. She was like Eric in that manner; outrageous fits of anger came with the package. He promised to tell Tris later.

Marcus came over to talk to us, telling Tris and I that Abnegation has decided to leave the Amity compound, because it is selfish of them to stay there while the rest of their faction is torn apart back in the city. He wanted Tris and the Dauntless to escort them back into the face. I wasn't moved by his idea. Tris was also uncertain of his motives, but Tobias said they should leave the day after tomorrow, so she agreed. We were bith anxious to be rid of him.

Tris decided to follow Marcus to see if she could get some more information. I stayed back to put Emerlyn to sleep.

It was times like these as I sat by the window watching my daughter sleep, where I seriously missed Eric. I didn't have the motivation to sleep, so rather I watched my girls small lungs move regularly, to every movement she made. Every clench of her little body, and every startled breath she took.

I wondered if Eric would accept her.
