After the whole Bubble Bass debacle, Squidward saw Spongebob in a new light. Spongebob wasn't just an annoying little sponge anymore. He was a courageous and caring sponge. No one has defended him like that before.
Squidward felt a tightness in his chest. Was it because of his disease or was it because he fell in love?
THE SQUIDWARD QUINCY TENTACLES IN LOVE? NOT WITH HIS CLARINET, BUT SPONGEBOB?
"Th-thank you Spongebob." Squidward says with a light blush on his face.
Spongebob gives him the same stupid smile as always. "It was nothing Squid. I don't want anyone saying bad things about you! So I'll fend them off."
Spongebob's eyes were cold but he still appeared to be smiling.
