Noon arrived faster than I expected it to. Emily hadn't thrown up in a while, but I wanted to stay with her just in case she did again. Emily doesn't get sick very often, let alone have the stomach virus, but when she does, it can get pretty bad, pretty quickly if no one helps her.
At 12:05, there was a knock on the door. There was no doubt that it was Joe. I opened the door, and, not surprisingly, Joe was there. He was looking pretty casual. I opened the screen door.
"Ready to go?" He asked. I scratched my neck.
"Um about that... Emily's really sick and I have to take care of her, so I can't today sorry." I said.
"Well, does she have Ebola?" Joe chuckled.
"Yes." I said with a straight face. Joe looked alarmed. "No she doesn't, she just has the stomach flu." I said.
"Oh... Well, can I come in?" Joe asked.
"Um, if you want, then I guess so." I replied. He took a step in, and looked around while taking off his shoes.
"Where's Emily?" He asked.
"Oh, I'll show you." I said, and I led him upstairs. When we got to Emily's door, I knocked.
"Hey Em, Joe wants to say hi."
"Okay, come in." She replied. Emily was partially under her covers, and looking up something on her computer.
"Hi, how are you?" He asked, politely.
"Terrible." She laughed. "Rebecca wants to stay here with me instead of going with you."
"Yeah," he said, looking at me. "I know." I think I blushed.
"How about... I stay, and help out Emily, and have lunch with you here?" Joe suggested. I turned over to Emily.
"What do you think?" I asked.
"Sure." She said, beaming.
