Why am I running? I just want to be better. I want to prove myself. I’ll never know unless I try. I don’t care that I’ve only been doing this for a few days. I’ll show them. I'll show them all.
I pivoted on my foot and the fireball was only a few feet away. I went for a roundhouse kick, and the instant the flames licked my heel, it instantly solidified into an orb of ice, and shattered once it hit the tree. Deep breaths were coming from my lungs and all eyes were looking at the many shards of ice that were once a dragon’s flame. A large smile crossed my features and my knees weakened. All feeling was gone and my body began to quickly descend to the ground until warm arms stopped my fall.
Looking up, it was Gray and he had the largest smile on his face. I could only give him a weak smile back. He then began to bring me over to the group.
“That was awesome!” Natsu screamed but before he could get close, Lucy grabbed him by his ear and began scolding him that he could’ve really hurt me and to apologize.
Wendy ran over and Gray kneeled down, so that Wendy could take a look at me.
“How she doing?” Gray said rather quietly.
“Everything seems to be okay.” Her gentle voice spoke up once the light faded from her hands.
“I’m fine, once I have some food, I’m ready for some more!” I yelled with enthusiasm, sort of.
“But, you just ate?” Lucy said walking over with a sulking Natsu. The two were quiet for a moment until Lucy smacked Natsu.
“Ow! Okay, okay. Nora, I’m sorry for almost really hurting you, but that was awesome!” He screamed getting down to my level. Gray had glared at the dragon slayer.
Everybody was silent for a few moments, taking in the warm breeze that brushed against everyone's skin.
Lucy had put a finger to her chin, “Hey, don’t we have to leave for a mission soon?”
Everyone had forgotten they had to leave for a mission, at this very moment. Gray had looked over at me. We were finally starting to make progress.
“It’s fine. You guys go, by the time you get back I’ll be even stronger!” I yelled. My teacher had given me so much drive that I wanted to be the best I could be, the best wizard in all of Fairy Tail! Once, they come back from their mission, it would be time to announce who will be in the S-Class Trials.
Everyone had said their good-byes and waved as they all ran to the own homes to quickly pack for the mission. Gray slowly brought my feet down to the ground and made sure I was stable before letting go completely.
"We'll be back, and then we can make you the best ice-make wizard." Gray re-assured. I nodded. and he pat my head as he brought himself to his full height, and quickly ran to get his stuff ready.
The sun was setting and I was still standing in my frozen wonderland. I had walked over to the still frozen shards of fire, and picked one up gently between my fingers.
“You know,” A voice came from behind that had made me quickly jump to my feet. It was only Master Makarov. “Even some of the best wizards can’t freeze a dragon’s flame. Yet, only on your second day of training were you able to freeze Natsu’s fire. You my dear, will be a great wizard.” The short old man had made his way over and smiled at me with one of his smiles.
“Thank you, Master!” I had brought the old man into a hug.
“Now, it’s been a long day. Why don’t you go back to the guild and have Mira make you something.” A large smile covered my face as we both walked back to the guild in a welcomed silence.
The guild was slightly quiet, probably everyone is passed out drunk or on a mission. I hopped up onto the stool at the bar and Master Makarov next to me.
“Hey, Nora!”
“Hi, Mira, can I have hot chocolate?” I asked with pleading eyes.
“Of course!” Score! Mira began to prepare the hot chocolate and Makarov was deep in thought. As Mira gave me the hot chocolate she asked what Master would like.
“Thank you, Mira, but I’m fine.” Mira reeled back that Master wasn’t going to have anything.
“Thank you!” I shouted and quickly began to drink the hot chocolate. From the exhausting day and from going cold to warm, I began to feel very drowsy and soon found myself in a half-asleep daze on the counter.
“What’s wrong, Master?” Mira spoke softly as to not wake me up. I looked like I was sleeping, but truth be told, my eyes were closed and I slowly started to slip into dreamland but I could barely comprehend what they were saying.
“It’s this child. It’s only her second day of training and she was already able to freeze Natsu’s flame.”
It sounded like someone dropped something. “She did that?”
“Yes, she needs to be watched carefully. She has only just begun her training and already has this much power.”
“With all of us here, she’ll be fine, Master.” Mira tried reassuring the old man, but he was wondering how such a little girl who has only just started, be able to control her magic so well. It’s supposed to take years of harsh training to be able to freeze fire, let alone a dragons.
As the final drop of consciousness lifted away, a dark void concealed me and images began to play through my mind. I began to have this feeling of loss and dread, like something that I cared for wasn’t going to come back. Tears had pricked my eyes but I came to Fairy Tail to be strong. But, they could never prepare me for this feeling. It felt like my heart was ripped from my chest. I wanted the warm feeling back, I don’t want to be alone. Someone, please come back. But, it wasn’t only anybody. Maybe my heart wanted my parents but, they would never accept me, not now anyways. But then who? All of the faces of my guild mates flashed through but they all soon disappeared one by one. The feeling of loss and dread began to grow. The tears came back to the corners of my eyes and they didn’t splatter across the ground, they shattered. The liquid saltiness that had fallen, solidified into ice. I couldn’t stop the tears from flowing. The pain was so great, I thought I was going to die. Why is this happening? Aren’t I dreaming? Someone, please wake me up?
“Please, someone.” I whispered but they only reached back to my ears, no one else’s. “Help me!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. Warmth overwhelmed my body, which brought my mind back to reality.
As my vision came back, I was in Master’s titan hand, and the surrounding area was covered in ice, and that’s when I saw it. I had frozen Levy’s arm. She tried to hide it, but it was evident since she could barely move it. Tears started to well in my eyes again. No, keep control Nora. Everyone’s eyes were on me. How did this happen? It doesn’t matter, I can’t be here. Once Master saw that I had calmed down some, he released his grip and as he was about to speak, I bolted. I went back to my home. It wasn’t far from the guild, it was kind of near Lucy’s. My name was being called from my guild mates but was able to successfully make it home and slam the door shut. I froze the door over and fell to the ground. I can’t be near anyone, not anymore.
“How could I do that to her? I’m sorry Levy, I’m so sorry.” I had cried myself into a deep and cold slumber. My mind was full of images of my friends frozen solid. Why? Why did that have to happen?
My eyes slowly opened from the frightened sleep, I had finally recollected myself.
I wiped the tear stains from my face and went to the bookshelf in the corner and pulled the ice-make book. Levi had found a bunch of ice and ice-make magic books. I’m going to get better, so I won’t hurt anyone ever again. Just when I was going up, I came back down. But now, I can’t go back down, I have to keep going up. No excuses. I’m sorry, you guys will have to deal without me for a little. Time to be a big girl and instead of hurting people, I’ll be the one to save them.
