Everyone was gathered in the guild hall, and voices echoed, everyone being excited about who are going to be the entrants for this year’s S-Class Promotion Trial. Master Makarov, Erza, Mira, and Gildarts were all standing on the stadium, as we all looked on. I was standing next to Gray, as he was my temporary guardian. This is stupid, but better safe than sorry.
Master Makarov cleared his throat. “In accordance to the Fairy Tail Guild’s time honored tradition, I will now announce this years entrants for the S-Class Wizard Promotion Trial.”
Whispers began to echo as everyone began to get more excited. “Please be quiet everyone.” Erza’s voice was stern.
“Shut up and let the Master finish talking.” Gildarts threw in.
Master began to continue. “The trial this year will take place on Tenrou Island, our Guild’s sacred ground. The strength that you possess inside, your character, and your hearts, these are what I considered while making my selection and I have chosen eight participants. Natsu Dragneel. Gray Fullbuster. Juvia Lockser. Elfman. Cana Alberona. Freed Justine. Levy McGarden. Mest Gryder. Although eight wizards have been selected, only one will emerge victorious. The trial will begin in one week’s time.”
Once Master had finished his last sentence. I had zoned out to the rest of what was being said. From what I remember, Levy had told me that they choose a partner and that they are able to train with said partner till then. Since Gray was chosen, I wonder who he is going to pick to be his partner. I know no one will pick me since I’m still so new. But, what happens when he’s gone during the trials? Who’s going to watch over me and make sure I don’t mess up? Slowly, everyone began to scatter and disperse. Gray placed a hand on my shoulder.
“Hey, just because I’m going to be training doesn’t mean I’m not going to help you. Besides you can help train me and Loke.”
Loke, wasn’t he Leo, one of Lucy’s celestial spirits?
With that thought Loke appeared and it scared Lucy. “Don’t worry I used my own magic to open my gate. So you don’t have to worry about running out of magic.” Then Loke caught sight of me. “Well, hello gorgeous. You may be a little young but I can make due.” He grabbed my chin and held it up, a blush spread across my cheeks.
“Like hell you are!” Lucy came to the rescue and kicked Loke err Leo in the face.
“Hey, that’s my partner!” Gray yelled at Lucy.
“He’s my spirit!” She retorted. My heart sunk a little, it looked like they were having a lovers quarrel. But what do I care, I don’t like boys, they’re gross. And, he’s eight years older than me, which would make him a pedophile.
“Shouldn’t you guys get to training? You only have one week.” I silently threw into the argument and everyone froze.
“That’s right! No time to waste!” Gray had a smile on his hand as he grabbed my hand and Loke grabbed the other. I was a little nervous but a little creeped out due to my encounter previously with Loke. Gray had led us to a forest that had a river and ironically enough overlooked the ocean. It was beautiful. “Hey, Nora, can you change the landscape a little?” He asked releasing my hand. Loke did so as well slowly, with a confused look on his face as we didn’t know why type of magic I used. I nodded and focused my magic into my hand. When I felt there was enough, I slammed it onto the ground and watched as the ice began to expand from my hand and widened out to about a 30 foot radius. Loke began to shiver from the sudden coldness. Out of habit, Gray and I stripped down to our undergarments and Loke’s jaw dropped.
“What you staring at pervert?” I said as I folded my clothes neatly and placed them to the side. Loke followed suit and the two began to battle as I meditated. I was focusing on control, since at the moment that’s what I lacked in. I listened to the boys battle against one another.
“Nora, can you give us a hand?” I looked up and there was Loke.
“With what?” I closed my eyes again trying to regain the calm I had lost due to Loke.
“Training, duh!”
My eye began to twitched as I could hear him get closer. With a sigh, I complied. “Fine.” I had gotten back into position and kept my eyes open and looked at where the boys were on the ice. I focused my energy and ice spikes shot up between Loke’s legs and stopping just before they touched. “We’re gonna practice evasion.” An evil smile graced my lips. I began to follow their movements with my eyes and began attack them with spikes shooting up from the ice. After a little, I closed my eyes and tried to locate them through the vibrations of the ice. It took some time but I got it. I heard the boys panting and starting to slow down so I stopped since I was beginning to lose energy as well. “So?”
“Nice one.” Gray cheered me on.
“Hey, don’t you think it’s a little unfair?” Loke said as my feet touched the icy ground. “That we’ve been dodging but you haven’t dodged one thing yet?”
“Huh?” Loke lunged forward and a light shot out of his ring, straight for my chest. My eyes widened and did the first thing that came to mind. “Ice-Make Shield!” A shield of ice appeared before me and blocked Loke’s attack. My eyes widened as did Gray’s. But I only studied ice magic and once I perfected that, I was going to move onto Ice-Make, guess that idea went out of the window.
“When did you learn that?” Gray walked up to me and stared at my tiny frame.
“I don’t know? It was the first thing that came to mind and I saw you do it a couple of times so.” My words dropped off as I didn’t know where to go. A hand went to my head and patted it. I smiled up at my teacher and said thank you.
The days had come and gone and the three of us grew stronger as a team, and as friends. But today was sadly the day where the rest of the guild says good bye to the entrants of the S-Class Promotional Trial and their partners. It would be a couple days till they came back but I had a bad feeling. Something didn’t feel right. I didn’t want them to go, but I had no reason to tell them not to go except for this bad feeling. My mind was distant went my body was there at the dock as everyone was getting on the boat. A hand grabbed the top of my head gently and I snapped out of my daze.
“Hey, shrimp!” Gray kneeled down to my level.
“I got a bad feeling.” I mumbled.
“Huh? Look, everything is going to be fine. We’ll be back before you know it!” He smiled at me, trying to erase the horrible feeling that lurked through every nerve. “Look to the day we come back, and I’ll be an S-Class Wizard!”
A smiled graced my solemn face. “Yeah, be an S-Class, beat Natsu, and be safe!” I yelled and ran into him, wrapping my arms around his body. He slowly wrapped his arms around me and stood up. I held onto his neck tighter and maneuvered my body around his like a monkey so that he was now giving me a piggy back ride. I smiled and giggled at my teacher and looked up. Everyone was staring. Gray seemed unfazed as he saw me as a sister and a student, a large blushed had pushed itself to my cheeks. Stupid age difference.
Over the past week, I learned that boys do indeed not have cooties.
“Don’t worry Nora, I’ll protect him!” Loke jumped in and patted me on the back.
“You better!” I stuck my tongue at him. The three of us laughed at the others antics. We were like a family, the three of us. I didn’t want to lose them, never.
“It’s time to go!” Someone yelled through the crowd.
Gray slowly lowered my body to the ground and began to walk away. The feeling of loneliness came back. Before Gray and Loke got onto the boat, they turned around, raising an arm, and smiling in my direction. They’ll be back, they’re promising. I saw Levy boarding as well, and gave her a large wave which she graciously returned.
“They’ll be back, they promised.” I whispered. But little did I know, this would be the last time I saw them for days, weeks, months, and years.
