Ch.4
Hunters poured out of the woods, there were at least twenty. Why hadn't the guards warned us? I got my answer as I scrambled into the woods with Luna in tow. The wolves had been killed, they lay on their side blood gushing out of knife wounds. I felt a jerk and I stumbled to a stop.
"Eva look!" I heard Luna call.
I saw what she was pointing at and I almost threw up. There was a wolf still alive their ragged whimpers barely heard. My heart broke as I realized that it was our friend Lily. Lily was one of the only wolves who had talked to us. We ran to her and knelt by her side. Luna tried ripping up the shirt she had on to stop the bleeding but I gently put a hand on top of hers.
"It's too late," I whispered, "The only thing we can do now is to stay with her until she's gone."
"No."
I looked up startled. Luna had a determined look painted on her face. I watched fascinated as she reached out and placed a hand on the wound, a bright white light shone silver under her hands and I had to look away. When I looked again Lily was fully healed she was standing on all four paws looking at Luna.
I felt a stab of panic. Lily must have figured out what Luna is! I turned to Luna ready to make a quick getaway but she only reached into the bag she brought with her and pulled out a set of clothes and placed it in front of Lily.
We turned away as we heard Lily shift back and change into the clothes. I quickly stood up pulling Luna with me. Lily was staring at Luna with curiosity.
"You are a Lunae Wolf aren't you?" she asked.
Luna nodded and the reality of she did must have set in because she wobbled a little then straightened up turning toward me with a look of panic in her eyes.
"Wait! I promise I won't tell anyone, I don't think Lunae Wolves are bad." Lily called from behind us. We looked at her skeptically."Please trust me! Help us fight off the Hunters, a powerful Lunae Wolf and a Mystic? That would help us win." Lily looked at us pleading, "Please my twin brother is fighting too, I can't lose him."
Luna looked at her with sympathy and looked at me with a pleading expression to match Lily's. I groaned. It wasn't fair that werewolves could do actual puppy eyes even without their wolf form. Luna grinned knowing that she had won and we ran toward the camp.It was mayhem. We only had fifteen werewolves all together before the fight but now with the four wolves the guards had killed and two more down we were outnumbered. However they had managed to kill at least four Hunters. But still not good odds.
Luna, Lily, and I joined the fray. Luna shifted into her wolf and started teleporting leaving golden sparks trailing after her. I guess the secrets out then. I turned to a Hunter that was trying to sneak behind me. I called on my powers and flung the Hunter into a tree. I continued, helping wolves who were fighting their own Hunters. I imagined them as the faceless people who used to beat me and my fury skyrocketed. My vision blurred as I whirled and spun around letting my powers take over. By the time the fighting was over I was drained. There were Hunters littered on the floors most dead or unconscious.
I panted heavily my hands on my knees. I immediately sat up when I remembered the reason I did this. I whipped my head searching for her, I saw Lily helping up her brother Gaven, and finally my gaze landed on her leaning against a tree. I jogged over sighing in relief. She gave me a tired smile and I gave her one back."You-Your are a Lunae," a shocked voice said behind me. I panicked but tryed not to let it show as I blocked Luna from Alensi's view.
I looked at him and rolled my eyes, "No crap Sherlock,"
His shocked expression turned into one of anger. "Lunae's are abominations and are to be destroyed for going against supernatural order!" he spat.
My own fury rose to match his, "An abomination? Going against supernatural order? You do realize how stupid that sounds right. Our entire world is based on supernatural things. Luna just so happens to be one of them. I would have thought you'd be more on her side since there's discrimination against all of you! But you are just another of those arrogant jerks."
Alensi growled, a full on wolf growl and lunged but instead of going toward me he threw a powder in Luna's face making her cough violently. I tried calling on my powers again but they wouldn't come as he turned to lunge at me next.
A sudden blur appeared and knocked Alensi down. A woman with ginger hair and hazel eyes the exact color of Luna's stood over him. The remaining werewolves growled and tensed up ready to defend their Alpha. A great job they were doing. Instead, the woman pulled an orb out of the pack that was slung over her shoulder, rolled it toward the werewolves, and ran toward us grabbing our wrists as she passed.
She pulled us along into the woods, I was too shocked to resist as I stared at the damage the orb had done. After it had rolled to a complete stop the orb had started spewing out gray smoke obscuring my view of the wolves and therefore the wolves view of us.
We ran a while before she forced us to stop. I had enough. I yanked my wrist away from her and pulled Luna toward me. I've yanking her a lot.
"Ok what the Hades was that! Who are you and why did you have a smoke bomb in your bag?" I exploded.
The woman laughed, the same tinkling soft laugh Luna had. Of course. The same ginger hair, hazel eyes, and wonderful laugh. She was Luna's mother. I've been as oblivious as Adrien Agreste!
Luna must have caught on sooner because she had tears in her eyes as she whispered the words she never thought she'd say, "Mommy?"
