Mal, Evie, and Uma entered the royal library in Ben's castle after class. They split up once they reached the records. Mal noticed how they had recorded about every fairy tale story that had happened. A small smile formed on her lips as she saw a record on her mother. Now that the barrier is gone, the core four's parents had shown themselves again. Maleficent wasn't quite pleased to see her daughter again after making herself into a lizard. She felt quite embarrassed apologizing to Mal and her fiance. They're still in the Isle, ordering royal contractors to redecorate the island the way they like it.
"Found it!" Yelled Uma. Both Mal and Evie ran toward her. The turquoise haired girl placed the file on a table so the three of them could read.
There was a picture of Hades sitting on his throne in the underworld. Pain and Panic stood beside him as the god smiled wickedly. Some miserable souls filled the bottom half of the picture. Cerberus was standing behind Hades, his eyes glaring menacingly. There was a passage right next to the picture that read:
Hades, the god of the underworld, rules the dead in his dark kingdom that is deep beneath the surface of the Earth. With his group of minions, he has ruled over the dead for centuries.
"Okay, is there anything about his family?" Mal asked. Evie flipped through the page, finding exactly what Mal was asking for.
Hades soon married the goddess of spring, Persephone, despite her mother's disapproval. Stories vary on how they met (either Hades kidnapped the young goddess or she went willingly with him to the underworld). Persephone had bitten a pomegranate from the land of the dead, making her part of the dead. This is how she can go back and forth from the surface to the underworld.
A picture of Persephone and Hades accompanied the passage. Persephone was smiling blissfully next to Hades. She wore black ancient greek robes with a crown made out of thorns. On the next page, two pictures of a young boy and man stared back at Mal and her friends. The figures looked a lot similar to each other, but the younger had horns like Maleficent on the side of his head and long hair. His eyes were pitch black except for his purple irises. The boy had a mischievous grin on his face. The older man had shorter hair, no horns, no pitch-black eyes, and had a gentle smile on his lips. He had vines of grapes crowning his hair as a signal of who he is.
Soon after their marriage, Persephone had given birth to a god of chaos. This god was named Zagreus, but he soon died during the war with the Titans. The goddess Athena was able to save her nephew's heart and Zeus placed it inside the mortal Semele. Months later, Semele gave birth to Dionysus - who is the reincarnation of Zagreus - and he became the god of wine, grape harvest, fertility, religious ecstasy, and ritual madness. Though Zagreus may have been reborn with different parents, he still refers to Hades and Persephone as another pair of parents and is closer to them than any other member of his family.
Turning the page, there was a picture of Melinoe. She's surrounded by a mixture of shadow demons and ghosts. Accompanied by her is an older woman with short black hair, who carried two brightly lit torches. The woman was handing one torch to Melinoe, a wicked smile laying on her lips.
After Dionysus, Persephone gave birth to Melinoe, the goddess of ghosts, bringer of nightmares and madness. As the oldest daughter, Melinoe has shown herself to be sophisticated and cruel to those who disrespect her father and heritage. Hecate (goddess of witchcraft, magic, and ghosts) raised Melinoe as a nanny and taught her everything she needed to know about her powers. Melinoe's stubbornness and pride could have been encouraged by the older goddess, seeing as Hecate is prideful of her chthonic roots.
