Chapter 47: True Love

Everyone is acting strange. You can sense it. They have been keeping a distance from you for the past few days now. Whenever you ask to hang out with them - and that's something you rarely do as you still like to keep to yourself, they always have an excuse not to. The Core Four are busy doing some preparations for the royal wedding. The terror twins were finally deciding to be responsible for their studies. Your Auradon friends had their own excuses with sports and club duties. Even the Sea Three were bailing on you - Harry was bailing on you.

You wanted to confront them, but you figured out what was happening pretty quickly. The "royal wedding preparations" didn't exactly come off as something that neither Mal nor Ben were exactly fans of. Like seriously? A flaming blueberry cake with flower decorations? That suits your taste, not the royal couple who are more dragon and beast type of people. Once you figured that out, you decided to play along and pretend to be oblivious. You never had a group of friends - that weren't related to you in any way - to throw a little surprise birthday party for you. Even if you told them that you're not a fan of your birthday, you still found it to be nice.

Your birthday was now a day away. Your mother had called you and informed you that there was going to be a celebratory dinner back home, so you should get there right after you classes ended for the day. You didn't ask any questions. Once you turned 200, your family stopped throwing big parties for you (mainly because Demeter couldn't stand how Zeus spoiled you) and instead just had a nice dinner together. You didn't have a problem with that. Your only problem was how your mother would fake her smiles and how the nymphs would try to distract you from it through gifts. Figuring out that this wouldn't be any different, you let it be.

"So... I will be spending tomorrow back home" You grabbed your friends' attention. "Which means if you guys had any plans to celebrate my birthday, I recommend we do that when I get back"

"What? Psh. It's your birthday tomorrow?" Carlos faked a laugh. "I totally didn't -"

"I know you guys have something planned, so there's no point in hiding it" You sighed.

Carlos' smile fell. "Damn. That obvious?"

You nodded. They all exchanged glances, almost as if they were having a conversation. Harry stood up and wrapped his arm around your shoulders.

"Well, ye got us" Harry grinned. The others eyes widened. "We planned on throwing a little get-together tomorrow"

"Yeah" Mal nodded. "We planned on having it out in the garden, but since you already figured it out... I guess it won't be a surprise"

You smiled. "That's really sweet of you guys, and like I said, we could meet up after I get back from my mother's"

They nodded, smiling at you. You then diverted the conversation to something else. You hadn't even noticed that they all exchanged relieved glances.

'What do you think of this dress, little flower?' A nymph held out a pink dress toward you.

'Oh! And here's the matching shoes' Another nymph smiled. 'We can even make you a bow or crown to go with them!'

'You guys, we can't hand her the gifts before cake' Another walked into the room, holding a three layered (favorite flavored) cake. Five candles were placed on top along with a flower decoration.

'We also have all of these other deserts for the precious flower?' The first nymph pointed out.

'And there's going to be even more at Zeus' temple'

'You're going to look so adorable, (y/n)'

'We should get you ready. We wouldn't want you to be late for your own birthday party'
