Chapter 5

They lazed around in silence absorbing each other’s presence stealing a glimpse of each other here and there. A few warm smiles exchanged but none put words to their thoughts. She got up requesting him to walk around as she wanted to see the orchard. They were on toes. He was explaining her about the plantations, the exotic fruits they grow. They have tie ups with few companies who hire their orchards on rent once the consignment is ready Kishore informs them. They get it picked and the money is tranfered in granny’s account. Kishore supervises when people come over. He comes twice a month and updates the accounts for her.

“How does she manage all alone, Suhaan?” Reva asked with apprehension.

“Naah, whe have hired a full maid for her, apparently she is on week’s holiday and that’s why I am supposedly here.” He replied with a smile.

Reva interrupted, “So you into agriculture and farming this business.”

“Reva, I am a lawyer by profession,” he announced proudly.

“Ohh, that’s sound really interesting.” Her brows rose and her smile sharpened. “So you are on a holiday.”

“Well Reva, I took a leave from my firm for 10 days. I needed a break it was pending since long, to much had work occupied me. I wanted to find myself and declutter my mind and heart but wasn’t getting a chance,” he uttered and there was silence.

“Suhaan what happened…. I heard fiancée, break up and all? Sorry if I am intruding your personal space.” She stated feeling worried for him.

“So you heard it,” he smirked.

“Yeah, wouldn’t have gone unnoticed, was loud and clear.” She uttered making a face.

He cited, “Well Madam, I am from Mumbai too, “Verma Law Firm,” if you heard off, Reva nodded. I work as a senior lawyer. I joined nearly two and half years back. I was junior than but naturally, just a law grad what else could one offer me and my luck favored soon I got my first promotion within 8 months, I guess. I won some twisted high profile cases and that got me an entry the good books of my boss, Mr. Manjit Verma. He started sharing crucial and confidential cases, I directly reported to him. He is a mentor to me. Off course I was learning quite a lot under his guidance which gave me my name and fame at much faster rate than expected.

Mr Verma had a liking for me; he treated me like a son. I had completed a more than 18 to 19months in that firm. I had to make frequent visits to his residence. There I met my boss’s daughter Bani, who was pursing her advance course in mass communication. “Bani, sounds like a serial grey character,” Reva commented, all of sudden.

Suhaan gave her “too-much Reva” kind of look. She hissed “sorry.” He continued, “We causally started talking to each other and became friends. She had to write an assignment based on law for women and its implications. Mr. Verma asked me to help her and we worked together on that project for nearly 2-3 months. We got attracted for sure which grew to fondness for each other. We assumed it to be love, I guess,” he emphasised on the word.

“Bani, a very possessive woman and she couldn’t fathom if I discussed or worked closely with any other associates of our firm or outside and if at all it happens to be a lady she would go insane. It was purely her obsession for me and this was not going well for our relationship. It was hampering my mental peace and more over my work. I thought it was just a phase, may be, with time it would fade but it increased day by day, my bad. I tried explaining her that she needs to trust me with our relation but her insecurities had clouded her completely. She demanded my commitment. I wanted to commit but I wanted some more time as I wanted her to understand my work and I wanted to support her before the lifetime commitment. I wanted to be sure shot if we could get along permenantly not a temporary phase, I was in a dilemma, but I dint want to leave her also thinking she would change but she was not ready to understand my side.
