-----Seth-----
Liberty! Where are you?!
She chuckled lightly in her thoughts.
Relax Seth, I've just gone to town. I'll be back soon.
I grumbled to myself and returned to my work. I was very worried. She hadn't gone away on one of her trips for awhile, and I worried the wind would try to take her away for good. Long ago Liberty and I had made up, and months after she'd returned, we married and completed our bond. I was dying to have a child, but Liberty balked every time the subject was brought up. But lately she'd allowed me to talk about a child a bit. I was hopeful.
Some time after we'd returned id become leader of our herd, and Liberty was a great lead mare. People often came to her for advice.
Some time later I heard the door open. When Liberty stepped in i hugged her tightly to me. I breathed in her wild smell which now had my scent lightly mixed in.
"I missed you."
She chuckled and kissed me.
"I know you did dork, but we were out of chocolate milk powder. I had to go to town."
I laughed. Then paused.
"Have you felt the wind yet?"
I asked worriedly.
"No, not at all."
I sighed in relief.
We spent the rest of the day doing nothing much but lounging around. That girl went through so many cups of her chocolate milk, it was insane. I loved holding her close to me, holding her as if I could keep her from hearing the pull of the wind. But alas, I couldn't. Soon she would feel it, and if she went, she'd never feel any urge to ever return. She'd be truly lost. If she stayed, she'd always be content to stay around the herd territory. I waited anxiously for the pull to come and her decision. And I didn't have to wait long.
-----Liberty-----
I slept soundly besides Seth, snuggled tightly to him. Then a light breeze tickled across my skin. I stirred, feeling an urge stronger than I had ever felt before to go. To return to the wild, rugged life I had know before. I stood, and went to the balcony, lifting my head and closing my eyes. The moonlight played across my skin, the wind lifted my hair, and brushed across my skin.Seth bolted awake. He was a light sleeper when it came to my urges.
"Liberty?!"
It's okay Seth, I'm just on the balcony, the wind came.
Let's go to the old forest.
Okay Seth.
I climbed down the balcony stairs and waited for Seth. I knew this was my last urge. Either I would stay, or I would go.
-----Seth-----
I hurried downstairs and took her hand. We shifted then climbed up the hill. We reached the top, and before us, stood the opening the the wilds, behind us, stood home.
-----Liberty-----
I lifted my head, my eyes closed. The wind played about me. Lifting my mane and tail. The wind in the wilds rushed and shhd about the tall grass. Making the plains a grassy ocean. I loved the wilds. But behind me, stood the homes and settled herd I'd also come to love. And beside me, the man and stallion i loved.
I felt tormented, but at the same time calm. I looked again to the wilds.
Faintly, I heard a wild herd thundering past. Then I looked back.
The faint hungry cries of a newborn sounded out. Then silenced as the newborn was tended to.
I looked up at the moon.
Then I made my decision.
