a bigger family part 2

_____________

The first few weeks of little Meredith's staying, was weird.
With Finn the dog, she created a special bond; it felt like she had known him forever. She knew exactly when he was hungry, thirsty, feeling playful, needing cuddles and kisses.

Their bond was magical, but she couldn't say that she felt the same with Olivia and Harry.
They were great, the little girl couldn't complain. Little Meredith never said that she needed something yet Olivia could read it in her eyes and told Harry to fulfil her wishes and desires.
They bought teddy bears, all the chocolate they thought she liked and all the impossible toys.

One thing they didn't notice.
The little girl did not crave for material things.
After the last three families, she craved for love and care. Meredith knew that that moment would eventually come, because they promised. They promised to love her. They told her that and she knew, because they were honest people.

One thing that the girl did not know was that people could make empty promises.

"Harry, do you have Meredith's lunch ready? And breakfast? Gotta go to work. Is everything ready?", she heard Olivia ask Harry from the kitchen, who jumped as the dog barked.

"Yes, darling. Everything is ready. Breakfast, lunch, snack, fruit and drinks. Toys?", Olivia yelled a 'yes'.
Harry quickly patted Finn and kissed his head. "Good boy.", the pet barked in happiness.

They didn't notice that the girl they had adopted a few weeks before, was looking at them from the slight space that the door didn't hide completely.
Maybe it was really that bad. The first week was a dream and the second one became reality.
They were somewhat ignoring her, why?

"Call Meredith, breakfast is ready."
"Meredith, breakfast is ready!", the words she heard every morning before they headed to work. She was glad that school wasn't a problem until they told her that she had to start it again.
She liked going to school when she knew everybody; at the orphanage they all knew each other and at some point it was fun.

She quietly walked towards her new family, smiling lightly at the dog that happily welcomed her in the room she walked in. The little uniform looked nice on her, yet she disagreed with the words coming from outside. She looked ridiculous. At the orphanage, she could take part of the lessons in pyjamas if she wanted. Stupid.

"Good morning, darling. Slept well?", she just nodded and let them place a kiss on her cheek. The same routine that became too old - after two weeks.
"Have you read about this, Ollie? This is so fake news-", and the words faded away. Meredith didn't want to listen. She wanted to go home. That place was not where she belonged to.

Why did nobody ask her if she wanted to be adopted?
That was her life they played with.

She quietly ate her cereals and drank some juice, which taste didn't even matter because she wasn't paying attention to anything. The not so little Meredith was numb.

"Is your backpack ready, angel?", Meredith nodded again and jumped from her seat to wash the glass that had contained the juice.
She looked at the rests of the cereals and quickly forced that in her mouth, before washing the bowl also.

"You didn't have to do that, baby. Thank you.", she gave them a tight smile and walked in the bathroom to brush her teeth.
It pretty much felt like she was a guest at their home. Not their child. It was so weird; she kinda felt uncomfortable.

Would it be a good idea to talk to one of them about that? Probably not.

After using the restroom, she grabbed her backpack and watched how Harry placed a kiss on Olivia's lips and soon called for her.
Olivia kissed her cheek once again, wishing her a good day and Harry took her tiny hand, walking towards their car.
