-At school; Next day-
"Meet the human brain," Mr. Clarke said, placing a plastic brain model onto a stand thing. "I know, I know, it doesn't look like much. A little gross even right? But consider this. There are a hundred billion cells in this miracle of evolution." And the boys all looked at each other. "All working as one. No, no, I did not misspeak. I did not stutter. A hundred. Billion."
Suddenly the door flung open, and the principal came in with a girl with fiery long red hair in a sports coat.
"Ah! This must be our new student!" Mr. Clarke said.
"Indeed it is. All yours." He said, walking away. The girl tried walking away.
"All right, hold up." Mr. Clarke said, making the girl stop in her tracks. She was clearly annoyed. "You won't get away that easy. Come on up. Don't be shy. Dustin, drum roll." Dustin closed his book and started doing a drumroll. "Class, please welcome, all the way from Sunny California, the latest passenger to join us on our curiosity voyage, Maxine!"
"It's Max." She said, straightforward and dully. We all looked at each other.
MadMax.
"Sorry?"
"Nobody calls me Maxine, it's Max." She said again.
"MadMax," Lucas whispered.
"Well, all aboard, Max."
She went to her seat, as me, Dustin's, Mike's, Lucas', and Will's gaze all landed on her and wouldn't stop staring as she sat down.
-
We were currently at recess, stalking the poor, poor, girl who just so happened to be Max, riding her skateboard.
"There's no way that's Max Max." Mike said.
"Yeah. Girls don't play video games." Will said.
"Guess I'm not a girl, then." I said, chuckling to myself, making Will think twice about what he said.
"I mean, girls other than you. You're pretty cool." He said.
In a direction where he wasn't looking, I blushed to myself, smiling.
Mike saw it, smirked, and playfully smacked my arm.
I smacked his arm back, playfully. Shut up, I mouthed. He got the message and laughed to himself, and got back on topic.
"And even if they did," Mike continued, as if nothing happened. "You can't get 750,000 points on Dig Dug. It's impossible."
"But her name is Max." Lucas said.
"So what?" Mike asked.
"So? How many Maxes do you know?"
"I don't know."
"Zero. That's how many."
"Yeah, and she shows up at school the day after someone with her same name breaks our top score," Dustin added. "I mean, are you kidding me?"
"Exactly. So she's gotta be Mad Max. She's gotta be." Lucas said.
"And plus she skateboards, so she's pretty awesome." Dustin said.
"Awesome? You haven't even spoken a word to her." Mike said. I don't have to. I mean, look at her. Shit, I've lost the target."
"Oh, there." Will said, looking to his left.
She was going up the steps and dropped something in the trash, like a piece of crumpled paper.
We all looked at each other, and they started running, besides me.
"Guys, seriously?" I asked, throwing my arms in the air. I sighed and followed them.
Dustin bent over and started rummaging through the trash like some homeless person, the others awkwardly looked and waved at anyone else who walked by.
I sighed, and put my hand on my forehead.
"Got it. There we go." Dustin said, and I snagged it and read it to myself."
I started chuckling, which turned into laughter, which then I started laughing uncontrollably.
Dustin resnagged (a/n: resnagged is not even a word) the paper as they all started reading aloud.
"Stop spying on me creeps..."
"Well, shit." Dustin said.
"You guys have to be more discreet," I said between laughs.
"William Byers," The principal came, ruining the fun, and I stopped laughing. We all looked back. "Your mother's here."
Will then left for his therapy or something, so he left school early.
"You guys think he's okay?" Dustin asked.
"He's always weird when he has to go in." Lucas said.
"I don't know. He's quiet today." Mike said.
"He's always quiet." Lucas said.
Oh, I felt so bad for him.
Will is the sweetest, most innocent boy. He sweet, kind, and doesn't even curse, unlike the others, including me (a/n: Unlike me ( ͡o ͜ʖ ͡o) Why am I exposing myself omg XD).
