He wasn't sure how he even managed to fall asleep on the rock hard cement floor, but Jungkook awoke to someone hitting him.
'Ow! Ow! Stop!' He protested, not even knowing who it was. However, he immediately stumbled back when he saw Momo standing above him, glaring at him. 'How did you..'
'I don't even know, honestly,' she said, 'These walls are weird though. I walked right through them.'
Jungkook was about to interrogate her with questions when he suddenly remembered his vision he had before he slept - which explains everything Momo had done before. She was able to come through the portal because she used to be a part of the Ghost Kingdom. Each time he had lost her, she had turned invisible. Now she was able to walk through walls. And everyone whispered about her because she was the queen.
'Momo, do you realize who you are?' Jungkook asked sternly.
'I'm Momo?' She answered, confused, making it sound like a question.
But when Jungkook thought about it, he realized that he probably shouldn't tell her about her past. Doing so might result in dangerous things, but explaining her powers...that wouldn't be so bad.
'Momo, listen- try to make me not see you.'
'What? There's literally nowhere in this cell for me to hide.'
'No,' Jungkook explained, 'Imagine I'm someone you're trying to hide from. What would you do?'
Momo pauses for a while, thinking. And to Jungkook's delight, she eventually turned invisible. 'YES!' He yelled, instantly covering his mouth afterwards.
Obviously, he couldn't tell what expression Momo had on her face, but when she said, 'What? What's happening?' He knew she was confused.
'Look down at yourself.'
She shifted her head downwards, and collapsed in shock. 'Where is my body?!?' She nearly mouthed, losing sound as she grew more concerned.
'Calm down!' He obviously didn't think this through and had completely forgot about the fact that anyone would freak out if they saw themselves disappear. 'Look! You're just invisible! You're not gone! You can feel yourself!'
Surely enough, Momo (still shaking) moves her hand to feel her legs, her arms and her face, her heart rate slowly decreasing as she realized she wasn't dying.
'Why am I like this?' She asked after fully calming down.
'Ummm, I can't explain. You can walk through walls too, though, and you can probably do more stuff you're not even aware of.' Jungkook had started straightening his clothes, getting himself together, 'But for now, just forget that. We have to get out of here.'
Momo swallowed back her questions. She went through the wall, walking away. But Jungkook was left behind.
'Momo! Wait!' He hadn't even explained the plan to her. Of course, Momo being the Ghost Kingdom queen, was able to do many things and had a number of powers. Jungkook, on the other hand, could only fly.
After being transferred into the Ghost Kingdom, you are assigned a power. It is said that you get one randomly, but Jungkook doesn't believe that. Others got cool powers like mind reading, telekinesis, or could light things on fire. Jungkook could only fly.
Funny how that's the power most mortals would immediately pick when asked the question, What superpower would you have?
When Momo came scuttling back - her cheeks a bright shade of pink - embarrassed that she had left him without knowing, Jungkook explained the plan to her.
She complied immediately, without protesting. She turned invisible and walked through the cell bars. On a table at the far end of the hallway were the keys to his cell, 376 engraved on it: his cell number. A Ghostle sat on the chair beside it, but he was fast asleep.
Momo swiftly grabbed the keys and walked back to the cell, grabbing the attention of a few prisoners who were perplexed to see keys floating in the air. She unlocked the cell and Jungkook tumbled out.
They were about to make it out the door and back into the main building when a voice came from behind them, 'Where do you think you're going?' A pack of three Ghostles stared at them. Each had their gun up.
'Escaping so soon?' Asked one, and Jungkook could tell it was the one he had hit in the eye, as he could make out the faint shape of a bandage underneath its hood.
'Yeah, I wouldn't want to see you everyday.' Jungkook replied back. The Ghostle growled, and all three of them advanced on Jungkook and Momo.
'Oh, well you will.'
Momo simply took a step back and disappeared through the wall. 'Oh, great,' Jungkook said, 'Leave me to deal with the three musketeers.'
By now they were right in front of him, less than a metre distance. One reached its hand out to grab Jungkook's neck, and he could see its long, slender fingers, curling like tree branches. The sight almost made him gag, and he quickly ducked and slid between the middle Ghostle's legs.
It surprised him too, how he managed to do so with its long robe in the way. 'You want to play stuck in the mud? Let me touch you and I'll make sure to unfreeze you!' The Ghostle exclaimed, advancing on Jungkook again.
'I'm a bit too old for that,' Jungkook managed to say while dodging the several Ghostle arms that poked at him, 'Didn't know you guys were five year olds. Well, it explains your childish behavior.'
The comment clearly angered the three Ghostles and they moved faster now, backing Jungkook up against the door. It was locked.
He was ready to become Ghostle lunch when all of a sudden a hand grabbed him and pulled him through the door. It was Momo.
He could hear the Ghostles cursing him, fumbling around, trying to find the key to the door amongst the many cell keys. 'Woah. How did you do that? I can't go through walls.'
'I don't know.' Momo declared, staring at her hands. She obviously hadn't gotten used to her abilities yet and still couldn't believe what she could do.
Jungkook grabbed her wrist, warned her not to turn invisible while he had her, and dragged her off in the direction of the Power's floor.
They reached the central stairs; it wound up in circles, creating a spiral in the heart of the building. They both agreed that taking the stairs was a better choice than the elevator, but upon seeing the amount of steps they would have to climb, they both had second thoughts.
'Would it be too much of a risk to take the elevator again?' Momo was beginning to pant by just looking at the staircase.
'Yes, it would.' Jungkook stated, but he didn't sound too sure himself. He looked up. The top floor was only two levels above them, but the stairs looked never-ending, and Jungkook remembered something he was told when he was little. The Spiralia (which, if you couldn't already tell, is the stairs) was only for those who have a strong heart for work. Only those who have a driven passion for the Ghost Kingdom would be able to use these stairs with ease.
And now he knew why he had never used these stairs in his life - because he hated his job. He had always heard stories about people who were driven insane after going on these stairs, and he was too afraid to try it himself. He knew he didn't have a passion for work. And that's why he never used them.
But in a matter of seconds the Ghostles would appear. They would have found the key by now, and if they went straight ahead, they would come face to face with Jungkook and Momo. The normal route he took to get to different levels was too far away: outside each building, walkways that connected each building's floors.
Jungkook could tell that Momo felt uneasy in front of the stairs too. And it was clear why she wouldn't be able to use them - she had fled the kingdom long ago, her passion for it clearly faded away. If she were to use these stairs, there was no telling what might happen to her.
'Are these stairs safe to use?' She asked, her hand sliding into Jungkook's, their fingers entangling together for support.
'Well, only one way to find out.'
