"This past few days have been difficult for me.. I know you don't feel the same,
but I don't wanna lose you, would you be my best friend again?"

Soobin felt the weight had lifted off of him as he held her in his arms. She was ecstatic as she smiles up at her best friend. Both completely oblivious of a pair of eyes eyeing them together in each other's arms.

With a trembling voice, Yeonjun whispered underneath his breath..

"Is this how heartbreak feels like?"

———

Yeonjun threw the ball with force, out of frustration that it thudded so loud it startled Kai, who was watching him practicing, he was unusually quite today. But what Yeonjun didn't know is that Kai knew what's bothering him, and he didn't want to make Yeonjun more upset than he already was, by trying to talk about it. Although Kai feels guilty about it too, what if Yeonjun wants to talk about it?—

"Let's go."

Kai turned, in confusion, when Yeonjun's already changed clothes, but he quickly nodded and caught up to walk out of the gym, along with Yeonjun, walking side by side in silence.

It's usually Kai who breaks the ice, but he just wouldn't say anything, not knowing what to even say, while Yeonjun on the other hand, was just being Yeonjun, he doesn't even notice how Kai was so quite for the past few days. The more they walk, the more Kai felt the weight of not talking, bringing him down.

"Yeonjun, is something wrong?" Kai finally built up the courage to confront him.

Yeonjun grew stiff, but still walking, although uncomfortably, "What are you talking about?"

For a second, Kai thought that it was too sudden and he almost regret that he asked Yeonjun that, but he went on, "You know what? I'm just gonna say it that I know something's bothering you, you can talk to me about it—"

"No. Not now."

Kai stops in his tracks when Yeonjun gave him a look that probably could kill.

Yeonjun walked away, shrugging off the guilt that was making its way up to his guts, he walked ahead leaving Kai to walk after until he bumped into someone. His heart skipped a beat when he realized who it was.

"Yeonjun."

This familiar scene.. He realized how much he's missed her after trying to avoid her for days. He'd hate to admit that his heart was still beating like crazy at the girl in front of him and clearly, she still had the same effect on him as it was before.

Memories came rushing back into his mind, as he stood, deeply staring into the pair of eyes he'd grown to adore so much.

Since the first time he'd laid his eyes on her, it was in this exact same place.

"Sorry! I wasn't paying attention!"

"It's okay! I wasn't.. either.."

And when he held her hand for the very first time, he remembered how it fit so perfectly in his own's and it felt so so right when he did it.

"Yeonjun!" She called, her voice brought him back from his trance, he quickly composed himself and ready to walk away in any second.

Kai was already gone, wanting to give both of them the space they needed.

But she caught his wrist before he could take a step any further. His eyes widened and he looked from between her face and the hand holding his.

"What do you need from me," Yeonjun asked as her hold loosen ever so slightly at the tone of his voice. He sounded like there was nothing happened between them in the first place at all. The pained look on her face slowly tore him apart, but he won't show it, ..how vulnerable he actually was.

Her hand slowly slid from his, back to her side, as she lowered her gaze down to the ground.

"I.. I just thought that we could talk.." she muttered, still not looking up into his eyes.

"About what? Exactly?" Yeonjun answered.

She finally looked up and took a short deep breath before speaking, "You've been avoiding me.. And I w-"

"What are you even talking about?"

"Yeonjun," she sighed exasperatedly.

He turned to look at her, straight in the eyes, almost managed to intimidate her, but she stood her ground and stared right back while holding her tears.

"Why are you doing this? I know you've been avoiding me, but why?!"

"I'm not avoiding you," he cut her off. "Yes you are-"

"And if I really am avoiding you, does it matter?" he cut her once again before she was rendered speechless.

She felt like her entire soul has left her body, she could've catch up to him, but her legs were shaking and they wouldn't let her get to him. She stayed there for a few good minutes to calm herself down, before actually let the first tear to roll down her cheek and quickly wiped it away.
