Harper was crazy.

She had lost it and it was now a sad reminiscence.

"Dr. Banerji quit and he gave me no reason. Told me to ask you." She had pulled me round a corner of the hospital. I glanced around and found  few unwanted guests looking in our direction. I scowled at her and then at them and then grabbed her by elbow and dragged her into an empty patient room.

Naveen. Jesus. Why was he doing this?

Things were already on brim with him and now I had to give Harper something else. I couldn't say that Naveen's health was faring low and I was not able to diagnose what was wrong. The moment she became Chief, not only I lost my relationship...but also I had lost my closest confidant.

"So?" she raised her brows.

I checked my watch and frowned at her, "What do you want me to say?"

"Why did Banerji quit?"

I glared at her, "How am I supposed to know that. Just because he mentored me through the years doesn't mean he will tell me all the miniscule details of his life. The news also took me by surprise, I had no idea."

She narrowed her eyes, "You don't look like you had no idea."

"Harper! What is this, playing true detective round the course? Ask him! You are the Chief!" I exclaimed, a bit irritated.

She threw up her hands too, "Then why would he say me to ask you?"

"We certainly, this Ethan Ramsey isn't aware why Dr. Naveen Banerji had out of thin air resigned!" I huffed. She shook her head and dropped the glare. Her features turned from tempered to that of remorse and when she spoke, her words were a bit softer.

"I thought he was going to be around. Edenbrook needs doctors like him." She looked at me, "Like you."

"Nope. I have nothing to do with the order." I stared at her, "It's you. And now I guess..."

She gave a pained smile, "You are the Director of Diagnostic Medicine."

I was dreading for this day. The day when Naveen wouldn't be around and I had to take the lead. The mantle of responsibility opened by this reputable hospital. Leading the front wasn't the problem. The carrier was a good chance and would help me revert to various of the charges which while not being possible for others.

But there was another thing.

The Diagnostic Team of Edenbrook, dare I say, very proudly in fact was the best in the whole country. And perhaps even the world. It was a fluid, an ever flowing motion of order and correctness emitting from every corner, from every person each being best of the best in the fields. The efforts. The groundbreaking discovers. The fun of exploring the cases like never before. It all existed in the team.

It was no normal team and being a part of it, lest being the leader was not an easy job. Not even for me. But I had to. I knew I could...and now Naveen's absence had left a place vacant in the team.

I crossed my arms, "Well, who are you going to give the now-vacant position in the team."

Her eyes went wide for a moment.

I was definitely not going to like what she was going to speak next. Maybe they had appointed Delarosa or Mirani, or even Dr. Loyoza. It wouldn't be that bad. Well, it wouldn't be easy to work with them, but they were manageable in compared to the other unique species existing in the hospital.

And there was Naveen.

No one. Nobody in the world, not even I could ever replace his place and position. That spot he had emptied out would forever remain empty. I would create a different wavelength from that area but resonating the way he had build up over the term of ten years? Nothing could ever...he was irreplaceable.
