The rush of the airport filled my veins. The hustle and bustle of everyone running around LAX, hurrying into their flights. Liam and I arrived 2 hours before the flight, right after our graduation.
She looked beautiful, the late LA sun shining on her face just right. There weren't many beautiful things in this dull, gray airport, but I had found one thing that stood out. It was her. Liam. The only thing that made this dull place seem bright and exciting.
She smiled at me. "Hey Awsten, aren't you excited! This is our first every trip together!" I laughed. "Yes, yes it is. But we need to get out luggage checked and go though security." I said and she rolled her eyes at me. "Okay Mister poopy mcpoopy pants. Let's go get our bags checked." She mocked me. I smiled and walked to the security counter. The line was long, so we had some waiting to do.
"I'm so excited, Awsten! We're going somewhere besides dumb LA! It's going to be just you and me, for a whole weekend and we can extend it if we want to! Awsten, we're free! We're done with high school, we have some money that we saved, your band is going so many places!" She squealed. Her cheeks were red, her eyes shining bright. She was practically glowing.
"I know, I know. We're gonna go everywhere together. This weekend, I don't know what this weekend will be like." I smiled, thinking about everything we had planned. From the swimming, to just the two of us by the fire place.
"I cannot wait to get you all alone. Just the two of us in a cabin, no Otto, no Geoff, just us." She smiled, her smile somewhat devilish. I smiled back and just took a moment to stare into her eyes. They were so beautifully brown, a shimmer of green in them. Everyone around us couldn't compare to how she looked tonight. Effortlessly beautiful.
I touched her cheek and kissed her forehead softly. "We'll do all of it together." I smiled and she smiled right back. "I love you, Awsten." She said, then I felt my cheeks burn. I chuckled nervously. "I-I love you, Liam." I said, my voice holding a light squeal to it.
She giggled, then kissed my cheek. "Next please." I heard a male voice say. They were calling Liam and I to the baggage check. We walked over to the counter and smiled. I hauled my bag into the x ray machine, then proceeded to dump out all of my metal items, including my ring, into that small box that they still had to push through the x ray then I walked through the metal detector without any difficulties.
I got my stuff and slipped my ring back on, then waited for Liam. It wasn't long until we were reunited again, my backpack draped over her shoulder. She smiled and rolled her eyes. "What would you do if you didn't have me?" I just giggled and pressed my lips against her forehead.
The two of us left the room and went to our gate. We were there a whole hour before we were meant be boarding. There were a few restaurants around the waiting area. "You wanna get something to eat?" I asked. Liam nodded and tapped her stomach. "Yeah, I'm getting hungry."
I took her hand and lead her to one of the restaurants. We got a table at the back and ordered. Liam looked down at her phone and gasped, tears already welling in her eyes. "Liam? What's wrong?" I asked her. She looked me in my eyes and moved her hand from her mouth.
"I-I got in! Dallon Just sent me my acceptance letter! Awsten I'm going to the Juilliard School!" She said, her smile was huge. I could feel her heart beating through her chest.
"Oh my god I'm so happy for you! When are you going? And where is it?" I asked. I could feel this sinking feeling in my stomach, like she was about to say something that would ruin my day. "It's in New York. And I'll be starting at the beginning of September." She smiled. Her eyes were beaming.
"Woah, New York! That's so cool." I smiled. "I know. I'll be up there, one day, acting with the stars, one day, in a broadway musical." She stared at the ceiling, her face in a state of wonder.
"Hey, you're going to New York." She nodded. "And I'll still be here, in California. Across the whole country." Her facial expression suddenly sunk. Her phone slipped to the table and she covered her mouth with her hands.
"Awsten...." she shook her head. I smiled at her, despite the sinking feeling in my stomach and the fact that I was loosing someone close to me again. "It's okay. Let's not think about it now. We've got a whole month. And I'll even help you move in and I can even stay with you for a while. It's gonna be fine, we're gonna be fine." I took her hand and kissed it and she smiled at me.
"Yeah. Yeah, it's gonna be okay." She smiled, wiping her tears away right before they fell. The waiter gave us our order and we thanked him with a smile.
We started eating and I kept on checking if she was okay. She looked okay, she was eating okay, everything was okay. When we finished, she payed and we left the restaurant, hand in hand.
We got to the boarding gate and we took a seat on one of the cold metal seats. She leaned her head against my shoulder and held onto my arm. "Awsten?" She said. "Promise me, that we'll stay together?" I looked at her. Her eyes were sincere. "I promise." I smiled softly, then kissed her forehead.
Her eyes slowly drifted closed and I smiled. She looked so peaceful, like there where no worries on her mind. I played with her black hair, twirling a strand of it around my finger. I then checked my watch and saw that we had 10 minutes till we were supposed to board.
I took out my phone and earphones then put one in my ear. I started listening to some of our songs, looking over at her. I knew that most, if not all of the songs in our recent album have been about her.
Stupid for you begun playing, making me smile and sing along to the song. She smiled in her sleep, then her eyelids lifted and her eyes met with mine. "Hey, tell me what you want me to say, you know I'm stupid for you." I sung to her and her smile rose.
"Hey, can you come-a come out and play? You know I'm stupid for you." She grabbed my other earphone and stuck it in her ear. She smiled as she listened to the song. Her smile continued to widen as the song continued.
"I like this song." She said, making me smile. Her eyes slowly started to close again but that's when they called us up to board. She groaned then the two of us got up. We headed over to the boarding gate, sorted our tickets out then boarded the plane. We were one of the first people on the plane, so when we sat down in the plane, it felt...quiet.
Liam was sitting by the window seat, staring out of the window. She looked kind of scared. I touched her shoulder and she turned around and looked over at me.
"Hey, are you okay?" I asked her and she frowned. "I'm just, afraid that we, that we're slowly going to drift apart." I frowned. "Hey, it's going to be okay. I'll move in with you, we'll go places when you're free. I'll play music for you. We'll stay together for as long as you want." I smiled and kissed her forehead. She smiled at me, then gave me a short kiss on my lips.
She rested her head on my shoulder and I took her hand. "I love you." She whispered. I smiled. "I love you." I replied back and watched as she smiled, then as her eyes closed.
I looked outside the window and watched as the sun begun to set. My girlfriend in my arms.
