I could feel the AC from above blow cold air into the room. I had just landed in New York, hoping to see Liam and make sure everything's okay.
I left the airport and got a taxi too her apartment. It was a few blocks away from the collage, about walking distance. But I really didn't want her to walk in the streets of New York all alone.
I payed the driver, than climbed out of the taxi. I got my bags and made my way to her apartment on the fourth floor. When I knocked on her door, she didn't answer. Rather, a girl with brown hair and beautiful crystal blue eyes answered the door.
"Hi! You must be Awsten, I'm Sarah, Liam's roommate." She smiled, reaching her hand out for a handshake. I took it and smiled at her. "It's nice to meet you, Sarah."
"Come on in! Liam's inside." She smiled and lead me into the apartment. Liam sat in the living room, lacing up her converse. She smiled when she saw me. "Hey Bunny." I greeted her, setting my suitcase down next to the couch.
She got up and gave me a hug. "Hi Ghostbuster. I missed you." She said into my shoulder. "I missed you too." We pulled away and I handed her a bunch of flowers.
Red roses, just like when we went on our first date. She smiled at me and put them on the coffee table. "Thank you. Are you ready to go?" She asked and I nodded. She took my hand and lead me to the door. "We'll be back soon." She shouted to Sarah. "Okay have fun!" She shouted back and we were off.
We left the apartment and got another taxi. We didn't talk much on the ride, rather stared at each other like we did when we were teenagers. Our hands were intertwined and I had visible anxiety. It had been round about a year since if last seen her.
We'd been apart for suck a long time, but the video calls and daily texts made everything so much better. She's been rehearsing lines for me, said she was only apart of the backstage crew, but she had access to the script. I sung a few songs for her, we'd gained a good fanbase. I enjoy playing and making music for people to listen to. And I enjoy preforming.
We got to the place and I payed for the taxi. I got out before her and opened the door for her. She smiled at me as a thank you, then pecked my cheek. We walked into the restaurant hand in hand. It was fancier than I had expected it to be, but I couldn't do anything about that right now.
We walked into the restaurant and got to our table. It overlooked New York and the sunset. It looked amazing.
I kept on staring at the skyline, not really wanted to talk to her. I was afraid that I'd mess up again. Especially with telling her that I'm moving back to California and that I've got enough money to move back into her old house.
"Hey Awsten." She said, catching my attention. I looked over at her and felt a bile in my stomach. She smiled and it just go worse. "I'm moving back to LA."
I spat out and she looked at me."Well that's really cool!" She said with a smile. I closed my eyes and pinched the bridge of my nose. "And I'll be moving into your old house. I-I just think you should know." Her smile grew crooked but she was still smiling and her eyes were still glowing.
"That's really cool, Awsten." She spoke, not really looking at me. It felt like she was being controlled by something. She felt almost mechanical. I arched my eyebrow.
"Are you okay?" I asked her and she nodded. "Yeah, yeah I'm fine." She smiled again, then her head crooked. She flinched, her hair bouncing off her shoulder. "Are you really okay?" I asked her again. She blinked, like she was looking around for someone.
"Awsten," her lip quivered. "There's a guy t-that I met." She said, her whole face dropping. My stomach dropped too. "His name's Hunter. He's been doing so many things to me and he's been threatening me and I think he's watching." She looked left and then the right, then she showed me her arm.
There were bruises, several of them, it looked like her arm was covered in them. Then there where cuts, three of them, all in the close to her wrist. I was so worried, someone had been hurting her.
"Liam, what's-wha oh my god. Can I help you can I just please. Come back to Cali with me. Please." I held her hand and I out watched as tears rolled down her eyes.
She shook her head. "I can't. He'll find me. Please, Awsten. Please just go back to Cali and just-just stay away from me." I shook my head. "No I can't. I cant leave you alone with that guy. Please Liam listen to me-"
She got up. "Awsten I want you to stay safe. I love you and I-I don't want him to follow you. Just, just stay away from me, please." She left the restaurant and I watched as she walked out on me. The room fell silent.
And in that moment, I knew that what we had a year ago, was never meant to last.
