"Oh Mija! You're awake!" Ma said excitedly.
"Qu'est-il arrivé?" I asked again. Both Happy and Rose looked at me confused. "What happened?" I asked groaning from a sharp pain in my ribs.
"You fell when you were getting out of the shower." Happy rasped.
"Where are the twins?" I asked.
"With Maria Mija." Rose told me laying her hand on my leg.
"Ma, can you give us a minute." Happy asked her, seeing the look on my face.
Mom nodded and leaned over kissing my head before leaving. "What really happened Cal?" Happy asked me.
"I don't... I don't really know. I remember feeding James and Amélia. Then they went down for their nap so I figured I could have a quick shower and shave so I could surprise you tonight. I had went shopping with Tara this morning and found a little something, just to help boost my confidence. Well, I finished my shower and I just turned off the shower and felt really faint. That's the last thing I remember..." I explained.
Happy looked worried. "I'm gonna go get a doctor Cal. I'll be right back." He told me gently kissing my head before leaving.
Happy returned shortly after with a doctor in tow. "Hello Mrs. Lowman. Glad you're still here with us. How are you feeling?" He asked coming to check my monitors.
"Sore. My ribs really hurt and I have a bit of a migraine..." I told him.
"That's the broken ribs and concussion. When I'm finished here I'll dim the lights for you. Mrs. Lowman, were you aware you have Iron Deficient Anemia?" He asked.
"Um. No... What exactly does that mean?" I asked concerned.
"It means that you don't have enough iron in your blood. That is what causes your dizzy spells, your pale color. We will be giving you an Iron transfusion then sending you home with a prescription for an Iron supplement. After you are released, we will set you up with an appointment two months from the date you're released to check your levels and try to wean you off and see if it regulates itself. Okay?"
"That's perfect. Merci."
The doctor left again and I felt Happy relax slightly just before Rose came back with a glass of water. She handed it to me with a soft smile. "Maria and I will be staying with you Callie. At least for a couple of weeks while you heal to help with the babies and while my son works."
"Thank you Ma." Happy said looking up at his mom.
"I'm so sorry I scared you all..." I said ashamed. "I knew I was feeling off but I just assumed it was still just post partum..." I explained.
"No. Do not apologize Mija. This was not your fault. But, I'm going to head to your house. I will pick up extra formula for the twins with Gemma. I love you Mija. Just get better." Ma kissed my cheek and her son before leaving Happy and I alone once again.
"I thought I was going to lose you..." Happy mumbled bringing my hand to his cheek. "I can't do this alone..." He sighed bowing his head.
"Oh Hap..." I said softly. "If I have it my way you won't have to." I promised.
Happy looked up at me and scooted closer, laying his forehead against mine. "I love you Cal." He rasped lowly.
"I love you Hap." I replied softly.
Happy leaned in connecting our lips softly at first sending my heart fluttering. His lips soon began to move against mine as I carefully wrapped my arms around his neck. A throat clearing separated us.
"I'm just going to hook up your transfusion." I nodded as she had Happy move so she could hook it up.
As soon as I was hooked up I began to feel sleepy. I moved over and patted the bed beside me. Happy climbed in very carefully as not to hurt me and rested his palm over my stomach and one arm under my head. I nestled into him as I drifted off.
When I awoke next I was still nestled into my husband but we had guests. Jax and Gemma were seated beside my bed as the three of them spoke in hushed tones.
"You're awake." Happy stated looking down at me.
"Mhmm." I mumbled yawning.
"How you feeling sweetheart?" Gemma asked coming over.
"Okay I guess. Still sore but not horrible. Probably thanks to the morphine." I shrugged softly.
"You gave us quite the scare darlin'. Just glad you're alright." Jax said smiling.
"So am I." I said looking to Hap.
He smiled at me softly and pecked my lips. A nurse came in shortly after to hang a second bag of iron to my IV. She checked everything and left again silently.
"How long are you here for?" Gemma asked.
"Four days max." I replied.
"I'll bring the babies up tomorrow to see their parents." Gemma told me.
"Thank you. I miss them..." I said upset.
"Just worry about getting better. We've got the rugrats." Ope said coming in with a tray of coffee and food.
"Have I told you I loved you lately?" I asked him as my mouth watered at the sight of the food.
"Excuse me?" Happy asked glaring at me, but everyone else laughed.
I laughed and just grinned at him playfully. Happy shook his head with a chuckle as Ope handed me my food. I dug in quickly and stuffed a fist full off french fries in my mouth.
"Hungry?" Hap asked as Ope handed him his coffee.
"Starved." I replied before moaning as I took a bite out of the burger.
Everyone laughed and I blushed. Gemma, Jax and Ope left shortly after letting Happy and I eat. When we finished he kissed my forehead.
"Hap you should go home and be with the kids. They need at least one of us." I said softly.
"They will be fine for one night with Ma. The only place I need to be is here with you Cal." He rasped.
I smiled and snuggled tightly into his side as best I could. A nurse walking by stopped to flick off the light in my room. I laid my hand on Happy's chest feeling his heart beat beneath my palm, allowing it to lull me into a deep slumber.
