A Few Months Later....
Today while Scott was at work, my baby boy said his first words and walked all in one day. I feel like he is growing up so fast he's the height of a one-year-old at only eight months old, I just couldn't believe my eyes. What happened was that I was making mason a bottle when I felt something grab my calves. I looked down and I saw mason at my foot. I asked, "How did you get over here little guy?"
I picked him up and kissed his cheek, then just as the microwave beeped, I pressed the open button and got the warm bottle out and shook it with my free hand. Mason held onto my black shirt. He started crying as he saw the bottle in my other hand, indicating that he was hungry or just a little chunky monkey because I fed him breakfast three hours ago. I put him on the couch, leaning his head on one of the pillows where the armrest is, as I held the bottle up for him. I know he can hold the bottle up himself but he is too lazy to hold it up, himself. As Mackenzie was playing with her dolls I ask "Hun can you go upstairs into his room and get the wipes?"
She ran up the stairs to get them, then raced down the stairs and handed me them. I put the wipes beside me and popped the lid open so I can get on. When I finished wiping his face, my little monkey was dozing out. He always does this when I feed him. When I picked him up, off the couch I took him upstairs and put him in his crib, under the soft blankets. He looked like an angel sleeping. I kissed his tiny nose and left the room. Then I went into my room to get the baby monitor and headed downstairs.
Maybe four hours later he was up again. I raced upstairs to check on him. He was somehow out of his bed and was standing on his own. I was in shock. I bent down a few feet away from him to see if he was going to try and walk. In a baby tone, I said "Walk for Mami" opening my arms for him. He tried but fell at the first step then got back up. I grabbed my keys out of my jeans pocket and shook them. I knew how he loved playing with my keys because of all of the things on it and the sound it makes.
He laughed and walked up to me and reached for the keys. I grabbed him when he came to me and I kissed his cheek and said "Good boy my lil monkey" I gave him the keys and went downstairs with him. Then I put him on the couch and told Mackenzie can she put on the bubble guppies for him and she did. That's one of his favorite shows he claps every time I put on music or someone sings from one of his favorite TV shows. I went over to the kitchen to go start cooking before Scott got home. When I finished doing the dishes while dinner was almost done, I heard Mackenzie say "Mama, he said dada!" I turned off the faucet and walked over to my kids and went on my knees in front of them who were on the couch and I said "Monkey say it again...say Dada" He hesitated because he didn't think he could say it again then he said "Da da da da da"
I gushed at how cute he sounded I kissed him and said "Good boy!" I couldn't wait until Scott came home so I can tell him what Mason's first words were. I bet he will be so excited to hear it. Right when I thought that, the door opened, it was Scott. He had a big smile on his face when I walked up to him with Mason in my hands. I gave him a kiss then he grabbed mason from my hands and said "Hey Neño how was your day?"
I responded "He talked and walked for the first time today"
"Oh really, what was his first words?"
"He said 'dada'"
"That's so cute, can you say that again Mason?"
Mason wasn't paying attention to him. He wanted Scott's keys. He gave it to him and Mason rattled them. Scott tried to get his son's attention again. While he was doing that, I checked the rice and it was done. I served everyone and said "Dinner is served"
Scott said, "Okay so you don't want to say it for daddy, monkey?" Mason just laughed as Scott put him in his high chair. He started to fuss. I went up to him and gave him his bottle. Scott kissed Mackenzie's head and said "Hey Mija"
When I sat in my chair in front of Mason, I removed everything that he can touch because I know how he gets when it comes to eating. He gets very distracted, easily. As I started eating mason dropped his bottle on the floor and I put it back on the table that was in the highchair. The 3 seconds later he did it again I grunted "Can you stop?" He just giggled and I scolded him
"It's not funny ya lil monkey" I couldn't help but laugh because when he is around me, he always seems to make me smile. I'm so happy that I have a son again. I will never ever take him or any of my kids for granted. He is the light that helps me when his dad wants to be an asshole to me on days.
