Chapter Thirty One (The Lord of the Sky)

I plummeted through the air. It hurt more than anything I had ever experienced before. I stared up at the cliff I had been thrown off of moments before, but strangely, I didn't want to cry.

My wings wouldn't unfurl, but even if they could have, there wouldn't have been a point. I was already gone.

I fell as the sun rose, and I remember thinking how ironic it was. There was a beauty in it though, a beauty in the oncoming face of death that even I couldn't deny.

It didn't take long. It didn't even feel like a long time, and it was merciful.

I know I died long before I hit the ground.
The last image racing through my head was Alexander sitting in the garden with me, his head leaning against my shoulder.
