"I'm sorry to hear about what has happened, Miss Wilkins and Sir Goldman. We're happy to say, however, that the victim, Miss Douglas is alive and well, we have stabilized her condition after the 7-hour long surgery. She's currently staying in the ICU. Unfortunately, her two legs are not very lucky. Her right leg, had an open joint dislocation on her ankle, while her left leg had the knee dislocated. Both injuries can take up to six to twelve weeks to heal. There won't be a need for amputation however, the circulation of the blood is improving. The doctor was talking. Strange. She seemed calm and cold toward me. Her eyes were dark and slant, and her hair was long and white. Her lips were thin and they kept on moving. She's not normal. None of this is normal.
"B-But, Doctor Murphy, she'll be fine, right?" I hear Lewis say next to me. He had been crying in the waiting area for the last seven hours. His voice was coarse and dry, his skin was pale, "My darling will be okay, right?"
"Of course, Sir Goldman. The lady doesn't appear to be going into a coma anytime soon. She'll be responding in the next few hours," the doctor explained, smiling to Lewis.
I could feel him ease down, as he slouched on the chair. I turned to him, watching his features relax. He let out a sigh as he covered his face using his hand, "Thank god. Can we go visit her then?"
"I'm sorry but we can't let anyone when the patient is not responding unless it is the patient's own family members-"
"But, doctor, I'm her partner for the last 5 years now! Surely there's an exception!" Lewis suddenly stood up, he pointed to himself and even tried to bring out his phone to show their pictures. The doctor stood up, almost immediately, "Sir! I would like you to calm down."
His eyes wandered around, seeing the crowd forming. He lowered down and sat back on the chair.
It was the doctor's turn to sit down, "Now, sir. Unless you are her lady's fiancé or husband, I cannot let you in. Don't worry, we'll inform you two when the lady is awake, and you may be let in. As of now, we wouldn't want the lady's condition to get worse, now do we?"
Lewis chuckles, sighing once more, "O...Of course."
"Now, ma'am, are you okay with that?" I felt her dark brown eyes on me. I turn to her. She was cold. I nod, slowly. "Now, are you two sure that the lady doesn't have any family members in the country?"
Lewis shook his head. The doctor nodded, before smiling and standing up, "You two may stay here until the lady awakes. We'll be informing her of your arrival if you choose to leave."
"Yeah," Lewis smiled. The doctor left and returned to Bianca's room. Lewis slouched down on the chair in silence and stared up on the ceiling.
I had my legs on top of the plastic cold chair and my chin was on top of my knees. I hugged my legs, and my other free arm was biting on my thumb finger's nail. We were silent. Everything felt distant. It was chilly in the hospital waiting room. The air-con must be on max. The walls were white, the terrazzo flooring was also pure white, and had grey rocks in it. There weren't many people in the waiting area. Most were mothers with their children who could just be having a few sunburns.
"You didn't help her."
I heard him.
He was mad at me. I could feel the hoarseness from his voice trickle down my heart. I didn't need to look at him to see his eyes on me. I could feel it.
I was silent for a moment and left him to anticipate whatever I could say. Finally, I chuckled. Softly, "You have your own faults too, Sir Goldman."
He was angry, mad. He knew it was true. He knew, that if he hadn't let Bianca go for his phone, she wouldn't be in this situation. She wouldn't have almost died. She would be standing. She would be with him. Visiting a distant friend. If he hadn't let go of his phone...
He softened. He sighed. And he was crying.
It shocked me so much. I turned to him, finally, to see the tears dripping down his face. I frowned, "You're so unfair, Lewis. I'm no trauma surgeon yet. I've never even seen blood before."
He chuckled through his tears, "Yea, I know.
"I made a mistake, haven't I? Why didn't I even wait for her?"
I stared at him. And slowly, I reached out to touch him. He fell in my arms, and he sobbed, his voice was breaking again. It was a surprise to see how much more teardrops he had in his system. I hugged him back, rubbing my hands on his back. Suddenly, for the first time for 7 hours, I was crying. Silently, tears rolled down my face. I touched my cheeks, finding my finger wet.
Bianca is okay.
She's okay.
That strange woman said she'll be okay.
I don't believe her.
But I wish she is right.
"I wish I could have helped her," I sobbed, tightening my grip on Lewis. "I wish I-"
He let me go, so suddenly. The room had a poignant smell, a cold atmosphere, but he was so warm as he eyed me. He held my head and pulled me closer to him, his lips touching my cheeks. He tasted my salty tears while proceeding to continue to give me small kisses on my cheeks. He attempted to wipe them off with his lips until my eyes were dry red. He finally stopped and pat my back. Our noses were touching and in this cold hospital full of strange strangers, he started to fill in the space between us.
His lips were on mine, something I had dreamt for almost 5 years was coming into fruition. In a situation like this? Bianca is in the same hospital we are in and here is Lewis, searching for passion and satisfaction in my lips. He roamed, hungrily. If Bianca knew this, she'd be broken. But here is what I've been waiting for. Hesitantly, I began kissing him back, opening my mouth to let him enter. His grip on my hair tightened and he growled in between the kisses. I grabbed his jaw, pushing him closer to me.
We parted for a moment, letting the air in. We were here in public, and Bianca was sleeping somewhere near. He stood up and carried me bridal style out of the building. He hailed a cab, telling the driver the apartment. He placed me inside the backseat before entering himself with me. He held my hand throughout the ride, which was only 5 minutes.
When we reached our room, he threw me to her and Bianca's room. There on the bed, he was closing onto me. He pulled my shirt up, leaving my white bra on my chest. I hastily undid his belt, and pulled his pants down. The coolness of the air from the wind blew past us, yet, it was still so hot. Too hot.
He pulled my neck, putting lovebites on me, as I moaned his name.
Bianca, I'm so sorry.
