I want to tell you that I love you
Though the words won't come in an easy way
I want to tell you that I want you
I would like for you to stay
I want to learn your language
because you are your language
Your accent is familiar to me
now that we know each other better
But until I can speak in your mother tongue
I cannot tell you what I must tell you
And that is that I love you.
I was going to teach you
You asked me to teach you
I told you you would never be great
I did not mean that you should stop
I did not want you to stop
You misunderstood
I didn't mean you would never be good
Let me teach you
Let me be good to you.
I wish you no harm
Though you are death and I am life
I wish for you to be happy
Though you and I are not alike.
I will marry you
I cannot marry you
Your family will not let us be wed
My family will say that I am dead
to them
If we are to be wed
I must convert to your religion
because you are your religion.
I wish I could give you children
I wish I could give you the things you dream of
I wish I could grant you sons and daughters
I wish we could be mother and father
I want to be what you want of me
What I am not I will try to be.
