"john there's blood there's not supposed to be blood," penelope cried as she pulled a quick and easy floaty dress over her only underwear clad body. johns eyes had already spotted the blood dotted on their bed sheets but chose to ignore the pestering thoughts invading his mind of what this birth could result in.

"calm down baby, c'mon, i've got your bag we need to get to hospital - now," the overnight bag they packed was swung over his shoulder and he helped penelope put on some shoes.

"it's too early johnny, she can't come yet," the fear in her voice terrified john but he had to be strong for them both.

"penelope. the nurse said premature birth is normal with your condition so please come on and let's get to the hospital," john pleaded and took her hand in his threading their fingers, "it's gonna be okay."

penelope pulled on her cardigan and they both hurriedly - as much as a pregnant woman could - rushed to the car. john drove as quickly as he could on the mostly deserted roads until he eventually reached the hospital. the whole fifteen minute drive was occupied by every few minutes penelope leaning on the dashboard and feeling intense and very painful contractions.

john jumped out the car that was barely parked and ran round to with the bag still on his back he wrapped an arm around her waist holding her up as they made their way to the entrance. it was mostly empty inside the hospital but as soon as the receptionists eyes landed on penelope they grew wide and she shouted for nurses assistance and a wheelchair.

"john something doesn't feel right-" penelope cried as she dropped her forehead onto his shoulder feeling another contraction coming on. she put a hand at the bottom of her stomach and cried through the feeling, upon the end of her contraction she brought her hand up to fist johns shirt in her hand but the sight of blood pooling every crease in her hand came into their sight instead. she felt faint and as if in slow motion the nurse pried penelope from johns shoulder,

"there's not supposed to be that much blood," john said to the nurses, a middle aged man in a long white cloak came into the reception ordering the nurses take her into the emergency maternity suite and john grabbed him by his shoulder, "why is their so much blood - is she gonna be okay?" he asked frantically - tears pooling his vision.

"sir you need to calm down, we're gonna do everything we can but you need to calm down-"

"excuse me doc but if your wife was heavily pregnant going into labour six weeks early and there was blood everywhere - you wouldn't be able to fucking calm down," if looks could kill, the doctor would be dying right now.
