Michael and Ritchie were back to working on Michael's idea before Brandon had come into the picture. Brandon, on the other hand, was sitting at a table nearby and flipping through his cards.
"What are you doing?" Said a voice from behind him, but he didn't jump, merely turned slightly to see Kay looking at him curiously.
"Trying to see if the cards want to tell me something else before I help Michael and Ritchie." Brandon replied simply.
"How do they tell you things? Like do they actually talk or?" Kay asked curiously.
"No, I can just read and see what they're trying to tell me, though some are harder to interpret than others." Brandon told her before pulling out a card that showed an explosion. "This one however even you could interpret."
"What do you-" Kay didn't get to finish before there was a small explosion from where Michael and Ritchie were working on Michael's idea.
"Are you two ok?" Kay asked in concern.
"Oh yes, we're fine, this one was just a small explosion, and it didn't destroy the whole machine which means that it's just a minor bug for us to fix." Michael told her as he started taking apart the small mechanism that had exploded.
"They've withstood stronger explosions than that." Brandon reassured her.
"That doesn't really make me feel better..." Kay muttered.
"It's fine." Michael told her before focusing back on the machine. "We only have a cause for concern if Brandon sees a cause for concern."
"I've only had that happen once and I instantly make them stop if I think they're getting to that point." Brandon told her. "This one was minor enough that the only one who would really get concerned is mother and she just worries a lot."
"Yes, Auntie Harriet (quick AN: I made up the name) does worry a lot." Michael nodded. "That's why she had Uncle assign them a bodyguard, I mean I have one too but mother was actually against me having one."
"Bodyguards?" Kay asked in surprise.
"Uh-huh, Bjorn is mine and Brandon's bodyguard though he goes in between that and working directly for father." Ritchie nodded. "Then Michael's bodyguard is one of his dad's personal assassins, Triggerfinger or Patrick."
"Patrick mostly just runs reconnaissance on wherever I'm staying to make sure I stay safe though." Michael decided to add.
"Huh, I think I heard of there being someone named Triggerfinger in over in Grimshade-"
"You mean other me's guild?" Michael interrupted, to which she nodded. "That's very interesting how our bodyguards are technically still working for us in a different world. I wonder if any of our friends also exist here."
"Well, at least some of my friends exist here though I'm pretty sure all of them are adults." Brandon told him.
"Oh? Like who?" Kay asked in interest.
"David." Brandon shrugged even as Kay started coughing at that. "Though in our world, he's a ginger."
"Oh my gosh, how did I not catch that? You literally hang out with him all the time." Ritchie asked in complete shock.
"Its the hair, he looks completely different with black hair." Brandon reassured his younger brother.
"Yeah." Ritchie and Michael both agreed having met their brother's/cousin's best friend before.
Kay shook her head and asked. "So what's David like in your world?"
The three looked at each other before Michael said. "He tells really bad jokes."
"Agreed." Ritchie groaned while Brandon just snickered.
"That's it?" Kay was honestly surprised that the two boys didn't have much to say about their brother's friend. And that Brandon didn't say anything.
"You don't understand, he tells a lot of bad jokes. It's kind of his trademark. So whenever I go over to see them, I generally avoid him to avoid hearing bad jokes." Michael told her.
"I know him a little better but honestly he just tells a lot of jokes or he and Brandon are discussing some sort of shooting game they play or tarot cards." Ritchie added, even as none of them noticed that David was actually passing by and had stopped to listen.
"Our David's great." Brandon finally cut in. "He does tell bad jokes but he's also very intelligent and is an excellent shot, which is to be expected considering his mother was one of the best sharpshooters that father employed."
"What do you mean 'was'?" Kay, Ritchie, and Michael all startled while Brandon just turned to David as he walked over to them. Brandon gave David a sad smile as he said. "Our David's mother passed a couple of years ago on a mission for father. His dream is to become just as good of a sharpshooter as her as to honor her memory."
Everyone was silent for a moment and Ritchie and Michael's eyes were wide. They hadn't known that about their brother's friend. Kay was silent just because that was a terrible thing to happen to a child, to lose their mother. David, on the other hand, was silent as he had started getting flashbacks to his own mother. He cleared his throat and said. "I think I'm going to go, lie down for a bit."
No one stopped him.
