AN: Hey guys, I may have unintentionally lied. Because, this chapter, as you can see, is coming out today even though I said it probably wouldn't. I hope you enjoy it anyway!
With the arrival of Austin, Kandy, and Brady, it was clear that the dimensional travelers were going to need another place to stay. Lucky for them, Austin was always prepared in case something happened (mostly because of hunters) and actually carried gold with him. With the gold he had, the werewolf was able to rent out a small house for a couple of months (though he made sure to just rent it out for one for now, since there was a possibility that they'd go back before needing a second month).
Currently, Austin was keeping an eye on Ritchie, Brandon, and Michael, who were working on the genetics portal. Kandy and Brady were watching them for a bit but were soon playing tag in their fox and wolf forms respectfully. All in all, not too much of a handle to watch, certainly no more than he usually did at the daycare.
Still, at the same time, Austin's senses were going haywire. He didn't know this place. It wasn't a part of his territory. And yet some of the youngest members of his pack were here. It made him uneasy. His senses were going haywire to search for any and all dangers that could possibly be coming for his pack members, even if there weren't any.
He heard gentle footsteps to his left and nearly growled until he smelled a familiar scent. Well, a familiar scent and yet an unfamiliar scent all the same. Austin turned and just stared for a moment, with the other staring back, before gesturing him over.
"So... you're the other me Michael mentioned?" Austin asked the other.
"Yep, to avoid confusion, you can call me Silver." Silver told him and he just nodded as he directed his gaze back to the kids.
Silver gazed along with him, his own eyes widening as Kandy and Brady changed back into their human forms laughing, neither noticing the two Austins chatting. Austin followed exactly where his gaze was going and told him. "That's my youngest Kandy, and one of my twins, Brady."
Silver could only stare before he suddenly said. "When your Michael and Ritchie told me I had kids with Bri in your dimension, I couldn't believe it but... you're lucky."
"Don't worry, you'll get together with Bri eventually." Austin told his counterpart who merely clenched his fists.
"I-I can't. I can't put her in that kind of danger." Austin turned to look at his counterpart fully and saw the saddened look on his face. It spoke of loss, abandonment, and fear.
"Then I'll tell you what she once told me." Silver looked at him sharply even as Austin smiled fondly at the thought of his wife. "She once told me, and I quote: 'No matter what you do, I'm always gonna be in danger. We might as well go through it together so we can defend each other and I can be with the man I love'."
Silver was silent for a moment before he said. "Maybe that was easy for your Bri to say, but mine... we're friends, but I don't think she would ever consider me anything more."
"If she's anything like my Bri, she cares about you more than you think. Personally, I didn't think my Bri would've dated me when we first became friends either. But that changed. She slowly fell in love with me and I was already in love with her so everything worked out in the end." Austin said before adding. "Not that we didn't face our own share of problems. Life wasn't exactly easy for either of our kinds what with all the hunters and the fact that our species normally hate each other so others were targeting us as well."
"How'd you deal with it?" Silver asked his counterpart.
"I loved her." Austin said simply before adding. "And then we had kids, and let me tell you, the most amazing thing I've ever experienced was having kids with her. That's why we have such a big family."
"How big is your family? Michael and Ritchie mentioned at least six kids." Silver asked curiously.
"Well let's see, there's Athena, Bells, Jaxton, Daxton, Kai, Brady, Coraline, Evan, and Kandy as just my kids and then I have a couple of grandkids from Athena too..." Silver started choking at that.
"You have grandkids?" Silver asked in complete shocking looking over at Kandy and Brady as they were still pretty young.
"Yeah, Bri and I had Athena very early into our marriage, back before we were even ready to have kids. So we waited a while before having more, though that was also because the hunters were really active back in those days." Austin informed him.
"I'm gonna take a guess here and say you're definitely older than me." Silver said after a moment. Austin raised an eyebrow at him and Silver told him. "I'm still in my twenties."
Austin whistled at that. "Yeah, I'm definitely older than you. I'm not gonna say by how much, but yeah, I'm older than you."
Silver nodded but before either of the adults could say anything else, Brandon yelled. "Everybody get back!"
Michael was by Austin's side in a flash, dragging Brandon behind him. Ritchie was in the air as a bat while Kandy and Brady had also run to their father as soon as Brandon yelled that. A few moments later, the machine exploded much larger than it had ever before.
The Protectors came running out of the guest hall only to sigh when they saw that it was just another ruined invention.
"What did you do Michael?" Brady asked in surprise, not noticing that he was hugging the wrong version of Austin.
"I accidentally made an adjustment that mixed two aspects of the machine that shouldn't be directly mixed. Ever. Their reaction was equivalent to mixing water and potassium at large quantities." Michael explained.
"What's potassium?" Brady asked curiously.
"It's in bananas." Kandy told him.
"Ok..." Brady then looked up and saw exactly who he was hugging. Instantly the pinkette stopped hugging and looked at Silver. "Uh?"
"Brady, this is this world's version of me." Austin introduced them with a chuckle. Both kids looked at their father's alternate before Kandy said. "... You smell weiwd."
Michael, Ritchie, and Brandon burst out laughing while Silver looked pretty miffed.
"Don't take it personally." Austin told Silver with a chuckle. "See, we have enhanced senses and you smell like me, but at the same time you don't smell like me and it is a little weird."
"Cowwection, he smells like a sewer." Kandy said innocently and the cousins started laughing again.
"Kandy, that's rude, you should only point that out if it's strong enough to be obvious to everyone." Brady chastised his little sister.
"...Now can I take it personally?" Silver asked his alternate.
"Go right on ahead." Austin nodded.
"Anyways, back to work!" Michael declared speeding off to where the rubble of his machine was, making Austin blink.
"Has he had sugar?" Austin had to ask.
"No, he's just been developing speed magics since we got here." Austin was silent for a moment after hearing that before he plopped down on the ground, face in his hands. "We don't need a speedy Michael..."
All the kids from his dimension chuckled at his overdramatization while Silver just shook his head at his counterpart.
AN: Look, I had to let Austin give Silver a pep talk. Silver needs it.
