Eddie sat alone at the quarry around midnight. The stars were shining brightly in the endless black sky. The air was pleasantly warm, and the crickets were chirping to fill the nighttime silence. Eddie smiled slightly; this was his 2nd favorite place to be in the entire world.

He loved the quarry at night. It was so peaceful without the shouts and laughter from his friends. As time went by, Eddie found himself thinking of Richie. He loved those dorky glasses, that outrageously messy hair, the annoying and inappropriate jokes always spouting from those full lips, that infuriating smirk. He liked Richie's vulnerable moments too.

Like when Richie first came to him about the fact that he was gay. That news had shocked Eddie: Richie "Trashmouth" Tozier, GAY?!!! The mere idea was laughable, but funnily enough, it was true. Eddie was straight. Well, he wasn't completely sure anymore to be honest. When Richie touched him in the way friends do he felt light-headed, weak-kneed, and fluttery-tummied.

Richie's laugh, his smile, his voice, made him feel as though he was floating on a cloud. All of a sudden, there was a noise behind him. Eddie was on his feet in an instant; he had become very jumpy after Pennywise's defeat. He scanned the darkness cautiously. He saw a familiar mop of dark curls.

"Chee?! Are you okay?!!!" Eddie cried upon seeing his best friend. "Hey Eds," Richie said weakly. His cheeks were tear-stained, and there was a fresh bruise along his jaw. "You didn't answer my question. Are you okay?" Eddie repeated, stepping closer.

Richie crying was a more scary sight than Eddie had ever seen, including that stupid clown that had changed all the Loser's lives. "No. I... I got kicked out of the house," Richie muttered, wiping his face.

Eddie wrapped his skinny arms around the taller boy's waist, his head barely reaching his chest. "Why?" "I came out to my parents." "Oh no! I'm so sorry Chee! I'm here for you," Eddie said.

Pressing his face into Eddie's thick hair, he said, words muffled, "Thanks Eddie. I needed that." Unseen by Richie, Eddie cried silently into his chest.

Seeing Richie in pain was unbearable. This was a different pain than what Pennywise had caused; this was the pain of betrayal and rejection. "C'mon Chee. You're gonna stay with me till you can find your own place," Eddie said, once in control of the tears that had overtaken him.

"Thanks Eds! You really mean it?" Richie exclaimed, pulling back from the hug. "Of course I mean it! You're my best friend. I'm not going to let you live on the streets just because your parents are assholes." Richie grinned, and Eddie's insides lit up with the joy of making Richie smile...
