Eddie ignored what Richie said and came to the door anyway. He stopped and stared at what he was seeing. Beverly. BEVERLY??!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!? Tears poured down his face as he pushed Richie to the side and flung his arms around her. She hugged him back, shaking with suppressed sobs of happiness. "B-Bev? I thought you were dead! I cried for so long, I was so lost without you. When... how...?!"
Eddie was crying too hard to form coherent sentences any longer, so he pulled away and looked Beverly over. She was crying too, her shoulders shaking. "I'm- I'm so sorry, Eddie," she spluttered as she tried to gain control of her tears. They all sat on the couch and waited till Bev had calmed down enough to tell them what was going on.
"So... the girl that Henry killed that everyone thought was me... that was my sister, Bethany." "I didn't know you had a sister!" Richie exclaimed. "No one did. My dad kept her locked in the basement. She could do things no one else could, and my dad was terrified that someone would find out." "What could she do?" asked Eddie.
"She could see ghosts, demons, things like that, and could tell when there was something evil nearby. And she could find paranormal entity's strengths and weaknesses almost immediately upon knowing it was there. When we first moved here, she went berserk. She was screeching about how it wasn't safe, that we had to leave immediately.
"She could feel It, and every year she said It was getting stronger. That when we turned thirteen, all hell would break loose on the town. She said It fed on fear, and specialized in children. She knew everything about It by the time we were ten. She hated this place, and it's awful that she had to die here. She said when she was older, she'd leave this place and move to California to be a medium for grieving families. But... she couldn't do that."
Beverly paused. "So, why did Bowers kill her?" Richie asked. "Well, Henry found out about her last year. She'd escaped the basement and was walking around town. Henry thought she was me and taunted her. Boy, was he shocked when she said, 'Do I know you?' He demanded an explanation after that, and I gave him one. He said he would keep it a secret if I... I dated him. We did, but he became abusive, so I started avoiding him.
"When he saw Beth again, he once again mistook her for me and raped her. When she tried to fight him, he... shot her...." Beverly started to cry again, her face in her hands. Eddie wrapped his arms around his grieving friend. After she calmed down again he asked, "Why didn't you say anything to us?" "I wanted to, but I was so scared that you'd be angry with me. It was irrational, but I thought you'd hate me. I started following you, praying you would see me, but every time you did I'd chicken out and hide."
"That's why I thought I was seeing you everywhere!" both Richie and Eddie exclaimed. "Let me guess. That's also how you knew where we were," Richie said. Beverly nodded. "I was working up the courage to knock for a good hour before I finally did. Um, can I freshen up?" "Sure. It's down the hall, second door on the right. There's towels in the third drawer," Richie replied. Once the two boys were alone, he said, "This is so weird. I missed her so much, but now she's back, I don't know what to say."
"I feel the same way. What are you SUPPOSED to say to your best friend who you thought was dead?" Eddie said in agreement. "We have to tell the others, you know." "I know. When Beverly gets back, we'll call them and have them come over." When Bev came back wearing clean clothes and sporting wet hair, they told her about how the other Losers had reacted.
"Call them and tell them to come over immediately. But I'm waiting in the bedroom till they all get here," Beverly commanded, her bright, slightly bossy personality coming back. They did as they were told, and ten minutes later, the Losers Club was sitting in the living room. "Um, guys, there's someone here who'd like to see you," Eddie said. Beverly walked into the room, and complete silence followed.
"B-Bev?!?!?!?" Bill choked, eyes filled with tears. She ran toward him and they kissed. After about thirty seconds, Richie cleared his throat. "Sorry," they both said, blushing. Beverly told them everything, and no one interrupted. They were so eager for an explanation that they were silent. After she'd finished, she took a breath. "You could be on the news for this," Stanley said in awe.
"We missed you so much Bev," Ben said, and the others nodded vigorously. "I'm sorry I left you grieving for so long. I would've told you sooner, but like I told Richie and Eddie, I was scared that you'd hate me," Beverly said quietly, holding Bill's hand tightly. "It's okay, Bev. It's great to have you back. It just wasn't the same without you shipping Reddie," Richie said with a chuckle.
"Which happened and I so called it!" she squealed. All the Losers laughed, elated to have the only female of the group back in their midst.
