Later that day, the two boys sat on the cliff edge at the quarry, overlooking the water. "Chee, I have a personal question to ask," Eddie began uncertainly. "Fire away Eds," Richie replied confidently. Eddie hesitated, taking a deep breath.

"How did you know you were gay?" There was a long, uncomfortable silence as Richie tried to find an answer to his friend's question. "Well, one way I knew was because I've never liked girls the same way the rest of you do. I didn't know what a crush felt like, but I was pretty sure I had one on a certain guy," Richie said.

"I came out to myself when I was thirteen, around when It started terrorizing Derry. But I was afraid to tell anyone else. Why'd you ask?" Eddie bit his lip and decided to lie because he wasn't even sure why he'd asked. "I was curious, that's all." After a few minutes Eddie said, "It's nice here, isn't it? Even with all the awful memories below the cliff."

"Yeah, this definitely beats having a killer clown trying to murder your best friends," Richie replied, and even though it wasn't exactly a joke, Eddie laughed. God, Richie loved that sound. It was light and honest, and made Richie feel happy. Though Richie tried to deny his feelings for Eddie to himself, he knew how he really felt. On an impulse, Richie decided to say something he'd probably regret later.

"Eddie, I think I know why you asked me that." "W-what?" Eddie looked shocked. "Are you... are you gay?" Silence followed the question. Eddie didn't lie this time when he answered, "I don't know." "You don't have to tell me if you don't feel comfortable, Eds," Richie said. "Thanks Chee," Eddie whispered. "D'you remember when you first called me that?" "Yeah. Those were the good days."

4 Years Earlier

Richie and Eddie were sitting side by side, playing video games. "We're gonna win, Eddie Spaghetti!" Richie cheered loudly. Eddie whooped excitedly. They were playing Mario Kart, and winning for once. "Go Chee!" Eddie yelled. Then both boys went dead silent as Eddie realized what he'd just said.

"What did you just call me?" Richie asked quietly. "Chee. I didn't mean to, it just slipped out," Eddie mumbled, red-faced. "No, it's okay. I kinda like it," Richie said, blushing. "Chee. I like it too. It makes you sound soft," Eddie teased before focusing back on the game

Present

Both boys smiled at the memory. "Things were so much more simple then," Eddie sighed. "I know. We didn't have to think about a murderous clown every day and dream about it every night," Richie said. They both sat there as night began to fall, watching the stars light up the sky like fireflies.
