After explaining to Beverly's aunt why they were there, she agreed to let her stay. Their jobs complete, they walked back to Eddie's hand in hand. The wind was still howling, but Eddie had Richie's hoodie to keep him warm. The day was cloudy, and it looked like it was going to rain. Eddie was thinking of his Chee the whole way, and vice versa. The silence was comfortable, even for Richie, who always filled silence with jokes and laughter.

They stopped on the porch, and Eddie let go of Richie's hand with a sad sigh. "I don't want to hide anymore," he thought before opening the door. "Mommy, we're home!" Eddie called. "Good. There's something I wanted to discuss with you both," Sonia answered. Dread filled both of their stomachs as they walked slowly to the living room where she was.

"Richard, I saw your mother at the pharmacy today." Richie blanched as he braced himself for what she was going to say. "I asked her how her trip was, but she looked very confused. When I explained to her what you told me, she said that she kicked you out because you're a faggot," Sonia finished through gritted teeth. Richie flinched at the hateful words and tone.

Instantly, without really thinking, Eddie grabbed Richie's hand, and Sonia noticed. Her eyes widened. "Now look what you've done! You made my innocent son think he's gay!!!" she shrieked.

"No Mommy! I AM gay, and I love Richie! I have since I was thirteen! There's nothing you can do to change that," Eddie spat. "Eddie Bear, you're very sick. Let me bring you to the doctor so he can make you better," Sonia crooned. "Why?! So you can shove more pills down my throat that I don't need?! That make me even more skinny, even more tired?!!! NO! If you can't accept me for who I am, my boyfriend and I are leaving!" he yelled.

"Fine! GO! You both disgust me!!!!" she yelled back. Tears poured down Eddie's face as he ran upstairs to pack. Richie stared the woman down. "You don't deserve him. You're a horrible mother. I'm in love with your son, and throwing us out won't change that. You close-minded bitch," Richie said i a dangerous tone before running upstairs to help Eddie.

Eddie was sobbing as he ran around the room, throwing things into a large duffel bag. Richie hugged him softly from behind and kissed behind his ear. "It'll be okay, I promise," he whispered before pulling away to pack his own things. Richie flipped Sonia off over his shoulder as he and Eddie stormed out into the rain, together. They walked aimlessly for a bit until Eddie was crying too hard to stand up straight.

They sat on the cold, wet curb, Eddie sobbing into Richie's shoulder. Richie smoothed Eddie's hair back, whispering words of comfort. The rain stopped about five minutes later, and Eddie fell asleep ten minutes after that. Now Richie was alone with his thoughts. Now what?!!! They couldn't live on the streets; it was too cold, and Eddie could get sick! He sat for quite a long time thinking, when he heard a familiar voice. "R-R-Richie? E-Eddie? What's w-wrong?" Bill asked, approaching the two boys.

"We got kicked out of Eddie's house because we're dating." "Oh. Wait, y-you guys are d-d-dating?!!?!" Bill exclaimed. "Yeah..." "Stanley o-owes me t-t-ten bucks!" Bill cheered. Richie rolled his eyes exasperatedly. "Y-you guys can s-stay with my family until you c-can find y-your own p-place." Richie grinned at his stuttering friend. "You mean it?" "Y-yeah." Richie gently lifted Eddie on his back, and Bill took the bags.

They walked slowly, careful not to wake Eddie. When they arrived, Bill explained everything to his parents, and they agreed to let the two boys stay. Richie carried Eddie to the guest bedroom and set him down gently. He curled up next to him and fell asleep quickly, physically and mentally exhausted.
