Gym Battle

The next day, Y/N was practicing with Milotic, Starly and Gardevoir in a field to help each of them get better at using their moves. He had decided to help Starly get better at its moves so that it could help him out more in battle. For now, Starly was practising Wing Attack against a few training dummies that Maylene had allowed Y/N to use. Starly struck the dummy but winced in pain, due to injuring its wing. Y/N carefully studied the injury and took out an Oran Berry. He knelt down to Starly and held out the berry.

"Here, this will help", he said and Starly ate the berry, feeling much better. It chirped happily, ready to try Wing Attack once more

"Alright let's give it another try. Starly, Wing Attack!", Y/N called out and Starly flew at the dummy, striking it again. This time the attack connected and the dummy broke in half. Starly chirped in pride and Y/N petted the young starling Pokemon happily.

"Excellent work Starly. Now let's see if you can master Wing Attack in a quick battle against Milotic", he said. Starly chirped in uncertainty but Gardevoir gave it a comforting smile

"Trust me, the best way to practise and master moves is to have a small battle against other Pokemon. It's how I became strong", she said and Starly nodded.

"Ok so Starly is weak against Electric, Rock and Ice type moves. Milotic, don't use any of those types", Y/N said to the Pokemon, who nodded her head

"Understood. While I may be much stronger than Starly, I want the battle to be as long as possible, give Starly enough time to practise more", she replied. Y/N nodded in understanding

"Ok let's do this. Milotic, use Water Gun", he called out and Milotic fired a stream of water from her mouth. Starly quickly dodged it with a barrel roll before attempting Wing Attack. It connected but Milotic barely took any damage. Starly flapped its wings and shook its body, a determined grin on its face. Gardevoir smiled at the young Pokemon

"Starly seems to love this battle already", she said and Y/N nodded in agreement.

"Ok then let's do this again. Milotic, Hidden Power", he called out. Milotic summoned some energy pellets and fired them at Starly, who dodged a lot of them but took a few hits, before flying at Milotic, striking her with another Wing Attack. Milotic gasped in shock

"I think that one was a critical hit", she said and Starly smiled with determination. Just then Y/N heard a young male voice and his eyes widened

"I feel great. I think Wing Attack is becoming easier to use", he heard the voice say and looked at Starly.

"Was that you?", he asked the Pokemon and Starly nodded

"Yeah. One more go and I got this!", Starly replied

"Well I can understand you now. I used to just hear chirping but now that I can understand you better, this makes it easier", Y/N replied.

"Guess this helped me grow", Starly said and Y/N smiled with a shrug

"Milotic, one more move. Water Pulse!", he called out and Milotic fired a sphere of water at Starly who dodged it and struck Milotic again. Starly smiled happily

"It feels natural now. I think Wing Attack is under control now", he said as Gardevoir healed Milotic.

"Ok let's practise on the dummies again. Starly, Wing Attack!", Y/N called out and Starly flew at the dummies, completely shattering three of them in one Wing Attack. Y/N gasped in shock

"Woah! Starly's Wing Attack has more power than I thought!", he said in surprise as Starly landed on his shoulder

"Guess all he needed was a little bit of encouragement", Milotic said as Gardevoir finished healing her. Y/N patted Starly's head before turning to the others
