Chapter 16

Wei looks at himself in the mirror, not really satisfied. He is currently wearing a blue shirt and a beige suit. "Do I look alright? What about my hair?"

Yezun laughs but doesn't answer.

"Why are you laughing?" and he looks at himself again, oh God, how did he not notice before? That jacket is definitely not suited for him, it's too long and makes him look shorter, he must change immediately!

Yezun laughs again, seeing his twin change clothes for the fourth time already.
"Come on brother, it'll be like a family dinner, what could be simpler?"

Wei shoots him a deathly glare. "How can you say that? Both Mr Zhu and Mr Zhao will be there!"

"I already talked to Hong's father, I think he likes me," says Yezun with a grin.

Wei envies his self-confidence, on the contrary he is so anxious at having to meet Yunlan's father, and so soon, that he can barely breathe.

When Yunlan told him that the engagement was officially off, he was happy of course, he was over the moon, but then learning that he wants to meet him!

Wei is basically panicking under Yezun's amused glare.

Yezun isn't at all scared, he's wearing his favourite clothes, a light shirt, a dark jacket and blue-jeans. A quick shower, a few minutes to dry his short hair, and some more to wear those clothes, and in half an hour he was ready.

Of course he hasn't done anything all morning, he laid in bed watching the show for most of the time, until forty minutes ago when he finally started getting ready.

It's almost time to go, and Wei is looking at himself again, if that mirror could talk he would probably scream at him, and Yezun almost rolls on the floor laughing seeing that Wei doesn't look satisfied with this fifth outfit either.

It's an important occasion, of course, they'll meet at Yunlan's house, Hong and her father will be there, and the twin brothers are invited.

Wei is so focused that he doesn't notice Yezun sneaking behind him until he hears his voice. "Come on WeiWei, with that pretty face you would look good in anything."

Wei jumps on the spot startled, and Yezun laughs again and quickly walks out of the bedroom.

When the time comes, Yezun has to literally drag his brother out of the house before he makes another stop to look at his hair or changes clothes again.

They make a quick stop on the way because Wei insists on buying something, and not knowing what could be appropriate he takes Yezun's advice and buys a bottle of brandy.

When they arrive, Yezun is the one who rings the doorbell because Wei is so nervous he might flee if Yezun didn't have a strong hold on his arm.

Hong opens the door and the twins enter the house. Both Mr Zhao and Mr Zhu are there, and seeing them together they are quite shocked at how similar they are, nobody says anything until Yezun spots Yunlan in the back and decides to break the ice; he waves a hand in the air and says, "Look who's there, my favourite idiot."

Yunlan makes an annoyed face, Hong tries to hide a chuckle while Wei is so embarrassed he elbows his brother saying, "Please, behave!"

Hearing that, Mr Zhu steps forward pointing at Yezun and says to his friend,
"I'd say this is mine, you got the polite one."

Wei blushes, Yezun grins, Yunlan calls for them to enter.

Hong and Yunlan join their respective twin under the gaze of their fathers, Wei hands him the bottle then they all sit down for dinner. A person has been hired for the occasion, to cook and wait on them, so now Mr Zhao calls her to start the dinner.

Mr Zhao is bluntly looking at Wei trying to figure things out and Wei is too anxious to say anything; Mr Zhu already knows one brother and is curious to know the other one, so he asks, "Are you a painter like your brother?"

"Oh, no, I've worked as a photographer a few times but currently I work at a flower shop."

Mr Zhao understands now why he often found flowers in the house, lately, and frowns at Yunlan before turning his attention on Wei again. He asks how did they meet and there's an awkward silence for a moment since neither of them really wants to say the truth, but Hong doesn't know about that so she starts talking about when she first met Yezun.

Mr Zhu tells his friend about his conversation with Yezun who chuckles and starts talking about his paintings while they all eat their food.

But Mr Zhao hasn't had his answer yet so he asks again, "What about you two? How did you meet?" He wants to know more about this guy that seems to have had such an influence on his son.

Yunlan doesn't know what to say, Wei blushes at the thought and since neither of them seem able to talk Yezun just smirks and says, "Well, he kissed me so I told him that he got the wrong brother for that," in the same calm voice as if he was talking about the food.

This is news to Wei who looks at Yunlan as if ready to slay someone. "You kissed him?"

Yunlan gulps. "I can explain..." but everyone's looking at them and Wei doesn't want a scene in front of Mr Zhao so he murmurs, "We'll talk about that later."

Yunlan gulps again, and feels Wei's gaze on him for the rest of the meal.

When they finish eating they leave the table and move to Mr Zhao's study.

Yunlan appears at Wei's side and takes his hand, then whispers, so low that only Wei can hear: "It wasn't a kiss, and I only wanted you, I've wanted nothing else but you since that first night."

Wei's eyes light up, he looks around quickly and seeing that the two old men are talking to each other, he presses a forgiving kiss on Yunlan's lips.

Surprised but happy, Yunlan feels his body responding to Wei's kiss as it always does, and is about to tell him that he does have a room in that house with a very comfortable bed when Mr Zhao turns towards them and Wei lets go of his hand, embarrassed.

Mr Zhao thanks the twins for the gift and offers everyone a glass; they all accept one but Wei, who politely refuses. "Thanks but I don't drink."

Yunlan shoots him a glance but says nothing.

Mr Zhu takes out his cigar-case and offers them one. Mr Zhao accepts, earning a frown from Wei, but he's too anxious in his presence and doesn't say anything.

That is, until he sees that Yunlan is about to take one, saying, "Thanks, I..."

"No, you won't," Wei says before he's able to stop himself.

Yunlan immediately stops his hand about to reach the case and finishes his words in a very different way. "I... don't think so, but thanks."

Mr Zhao grins at the scene thinking that after all this young man might be just what his son needs.
