Friday night and working in her office was not what Keira wanted to do. She was editing articles and editorials for the upcoming June magazine. Late nights and early mornings were spent constantly in her office making sure that this issue was perfect and nothing less than that. She couldn't wait until her new executive editor came next month.
Work was getting hectic ever since she fired David Mitchell for sexual harassment two months ago. She couldn't take his constant remarks and him touching her inappropriately. To be honest, she should have told her father to fired him a long time ago. Especially when her dad decided to drop the bomb that she was now the head of the company.
Keira was her father's executive assistant at one point. Just like everyone else she had to go through an interview process to get the job. Her father was always the one that said, if you wanted something you had to earn it. And that she did.
One morning, Richard Davis held a meeting with his staff and announced his early retirement. She was blindsided by his decision when he told everyone that Keira would be taking over. It was an exciting yet overwhelming feeling. Ever since then, she has been taking Black Diamond Magazine to heights even her father wasn't able to take. I guess the magazine just needed the touch of a young soul.
Keira continued to edit pages until she heard a voice. "Keira! What the hell are you still doing here?" She looked up from her desk and glanced at the tall and slender editor, Lacey Daniels.
Both women have been best friend since they could remember. They knew things about each other that no one else did. Keira hired Lacey the same day when she got laid off from their competitor, Fierce Magazine. If was a shame for them to let go of someone as talent as Lacey but it was a score for Black Diamond.
Keira put the article that she had been working on for the past two hours, on her desk. "You know. Just doing what I do best," she giggled and leaned back in her chair.
"It's Friday night! You need to get out," Lacey exclaimed, coming more into the room. "There are a lot of single men just waiting to get a taste of you. You need to use that as an advantage."
Keira signhed at her bestfriends statement. She was getting tired of her and everyone else telling her it was time to settle down. Especially her mother. She was only twenty-seven. She had plenty of time to settle down and have a couple of brats running around her house, but now wasn't the time. Everytime she would go to Sunday dinner at her mother's house, she would complain about how old she was getting and wanted grandchildren immediately. Keira didn't understand why her mother would only bug her about having children when she had two other siblings who were happily married. She never pressed the issue of children to her brother or her younger sister.
One thing was for sure was that she was also tired of being all work and no play. It was time to have a little fun and let he hair down. Literally and figuratively.
"So are you coming with us?" Lacey asked.
"Coming where and with who?"
"Were you listening to anything I said?" She sighed.
Keira got up and and went to the wall behind her, inserted a key and opened the door. She took out her briefcase, purse, heels, and her blazer before closing the door and securely locking it. Keira slipped on her heels, adding another five inches to her five foot nine frame. Once her black blazer was on she button it up, leaving the first two open, followed by her Coach purse on her shoulders.
"Me and a few girls from college are going to meet up at Marquee, are you down?" Lacey asked with her hand on her hips.
Keira grabbed her briefcase and thought about the idea of going out. She hasn't been to a nightclub in years, but it wouldn't hurt to be wild for one night. Ok maybe not too wild.
