The only part

I closed the door and stood in front of it for a few moments with a frown on my face. The noise snapped me out of my thoughts as I rejoined my friends.

"You alright? You seem a bit off". Sam noticed right away.

"Huh? Oh, I just had the weirdest conversation". I said as I started laughing, realizing what a clever prank someone just pulled on me.

"Do tell". Felix demanded, visibly intrigued.

"Ok but it's silly". I began sharing after a couple more giggles. "There was a gypsy woman at the door, seemingly very scared for my life, warning me that I'm going to DIE if I go to that cabin in the woods. You know, the one everyone has a ghost story about".

"Well, Alex, that is hardly a conversation". Sam was quick to point out.

I looked at her irritatingly.

"Well, it would've been if she didn't just walk away into the night after I asked her what she meant".

Silence took over the mysterious atmosphere that was settling in. The fireplace suddenly looked fascinating to me, Sam was biting her nails staring into space and Felix was about to burst into laughter.

"Oh come on, it's Halloween, we should go there." He said grinning.

"You know what? You're right. After all, she didn't say WHEN I was going to die. So let's go there tonight and then I'll never set foot in that place. You know...just in case". I said, laughing nervously.

Sam glanced at both of us. "I guess I have no choice".

So there we were, almost midnight on Halloween, ready and eager to face the woods. Luckily...or should I say, unfortunately, it was a short trip from my house to the cabin. As soon as we arrived there, we could sense an unnerving energy. The wind's whistle, the full moon's creepy light shinning on the windowless cabin, random rustle certainly didn't help. I could feel my courage leaving my body as we got closer and closer to the cabin. Still, none of us was brave enough to go up the front stairs. All around, an alarmingly intensifying sound made us question both our sanity and the decision to come here. I, especially, felt targeted. Soon enough, we could catch a glimpse of movement between the trees. No horror movie had prepared us for what we thought was coming. The anticipation was excruciating.

"I love you, guys..." Sam whispered.

Before I could look at her, this deafening noise made me close my eyes tightly, grab Felix and Sam's hands and just hope I would die quickly. Immediately, the evilest laughs brought me back to reality only to realize it was just a poor taste prank by my brother and his brainless friends. I was still shaking when I punched him in the arm. Right then and there I promised myself I would get revenge on him...and never come back to this place. Ever.
