This is also gonna be kind of awkward because I'm Canadian and I haven't got a clue what American schools are like.

Yes, yes, yes, I'm going to be cliché and write the first chapter in Percy's PoV.

I saunter to the kitchen of the apartment.

My mom, Sally Jackson, raises her eyebrows. "Percy, you're up early. Care to tell me why?"

"I'm meeting my cousins later."

"And?"

"I, uh, have this feeling I'm going to meet my soulmate today?"

"You said that last year too."

My mom doesn't have a soulmate tattoo, which means she could be with anyone. She met my dad at the beach, and they dated for a while. They must've loved each other because they had me. But my dad was already married, so they broke up. I only knew who my dad when I turned 12.  When I was 6, my mom married a guy I nicknamed Smelly Gabe. She only stayed because he would keep my safe from the gangs in the area. Turns out he actually didn't do much. When he died in a car crash drunk, both of us were relieved. After a while, my mom remarried to guy named Paul Blofis who also didn't have a tattoo. Paul is really nice; and so much better Smelly Gabe. He's also my English teacher. It's awkward, having your stepdad as your teacher. And I became an older brother a few months ago, when Estelle, my half-sister, was born!

"Yeah, but this time, the feeling's so much stronger, like I'm going to find her sometime this year. Not just meet her, but actually find her," I say.

Sally just smiles. "Good luck, but since you're going so quickly, I would just like to tell you that I made blue cookies." My eyes lit up at those words.

"Never mind. I'll go to Jason's after." I rush toward the counter where the cookies rest on their plate. I can't believe I hadn't smelt them earlier. My hand reaches out to grab a handful. I stuff as many as I could into my mouth. "Mmmmm," I say.

"Perwy! Perwy!" I hear. My head turns to see Estelle in her high chair bouncing up and down.

"Stella!" I say, but with my mouth full, it sounds more like, "Shwella!"

I grab a cookie from the plate and hand it to her. My mom just then comes and takes the cookie out of Estelle's hand. "Stella isn't able to eat cookies just yet," she scolds me, "her teeth haven't grown in fully."

My puppy face spreads over my face. "N-n-no blue cookies for Stella?"

I look over at Estelle. She is staring at her hand where the space the blue cookie had been. Her eyes are wide. "Whare?" She starts sobbing. "Whare? Whare? Whare?" Estelle cries harder.

Sally rushes over to soothe Estelle. "Don't worry baby, it's fine, you'll get it soon." At the sound of her mother's voice, Estelle calms down.

"Oh, and Percy, Paul's already gone, so you'll have to drive to school on your own. Bring Jason, Nico and Hazel along too."

I nod. I grab another handful of cookies, my backpack and walk to my mom. I kiss her cheek and say goodbye. Out through the door and up the elevator I go. The Grace's and Hazel and Nico live up in the penthouses because their fathers are rich. Yeah, my dad's rich too, but my mom didn't want to move up there.

When I get to their floor, I knock impatiently. Jason flings the door open and grins. "Percy!" he exclaims. "Come in!"

I peer inside. "Are you sure Pinecone Face isn't going to kill me?"

"No. She only tried to murder you once."

I step into the room reluctantly. "Jason."

"Yes?"

"It was twice."

Jason sighs. "Just come on."

When I fully emerge myself into Jason's living room, the doorbell rings. "It's probably Nico and Hazel," Jason says. He goes off to answer the door again.

I look around the room. Jason and Thalia's dad is a very wealthy businessman and he's always away on some trip. Thalia graduated from Goode last year (she goes to Artemis University now), so she decided to ask her dad (appropriately named Zeus) if she could legally own the penthouse. He said yes. Nico and Hazel's dad and my dad confirmed this as they are his brothers. The penthouse has change a lot since Thalia redecorated. Tons of the expensive paintings have disappeared and replaced with other, random things. The furniture has changed quite a bit and everything has a touch of Thalia.

Nico suddenly walks in and collapses next to me on the couch. Hazel follows close behind. Jason walks in last. He sees us all laying on the couch and glares. "Off! Off!" He shoos us off the couch.

"Hey!" Nico says, scowling cutely.

Jason grins and lie down where we had been. He stretches, the muscles gained from basketball rippling. "Ahhh."

I glare at him and get ready to steal the couch back. Before I could act, a new voice sounds. "Hey Hazel, Nico." Thalia Grace steps from the hallway. "Jason, get off the couch."

Jason frowns but gets off. We all know what Thalia could do when she wanted something.

She barely glances my way when she says, "Hey Kelp Head."

"Hey Pinecone Face," I retort.

Nico scowls at Thalia, who is now lounging on the couch. Jason and Thalia's couch was something of possession. It had become tradition that we all tried to take the couch whenever we were together.

The dark-haired girl pats the spot next to her. "Hazel,  you can come sit here and we can glare at the boys together."

Hazel smiles and turns to all of us and sticks her tongue out. I thought I hear her say, "Ha."

There we all were, me, Nico and Jason standing and glowering at Thalia and Hazel (fine, more at Thalia than Hazel) on the couch.

A ding-ding-ding suddenly sounds in the middle of our standoff. We all look at Jason. He pulls his phone out. His eyes grow wide. "Oh no. Come on guys, we're gonna be late for school." Hazel joins into his panic. Honestly, I don't really care much about school, but even Nico looked panicked, so I join into their alarm.

We all rush downstairs to the parking lot where my car was. I got into the driver's seat while Jason (as second oldest) sat in shotgun. Nico and Hazel slip into the backseat.

We got to school just a few minutes before the bell rang. When the bell rang, we all rush to our first class. I had English, which just so happened to be taught by Paul, first.

I sit in the first empty desk I could find, which just so happens to be next to Nancy Bobofit. Nancy is one of the biggest bullies in school. Of course, only the students knew that as she acted all nice around the teachers.

"Hey loser," she sneers at me. It took all my self-control to ignore her.

On my other side was Annabeth Chase. Annabeth isn't exactly my friend. But she's one of Hazel's friends, so that makes her one of my friends, I suppose.

"Perseus Jackson," Paul calls out.

I grimace at my real name. "Here."

Paul smiles at me before continuing on.

I ignore the rest of attendance until Paul called out a name.

"Grover Underwood."

No answer. I was confused. Grover was my first friend even before I came to Goode. We knew each other since we'd been 12. Where is he? It wasn't like Grover to miss school.

"Mister Underwood?" Paul asks. Again, no reply came. So Paul writes something down on the clipboard and moves on to the other people.

What do you think happened to Grover?

It's gonna be a mystery, oh yes it is.
