Old Flame

I found myself face to face with an old flame.
Who at one point in time set not only my heart but my soul ablaze.

They said it would be easy coming home.
However I'm not here to stay.

For time has passed and we are no longer the same.
Different in so many ways.

We are no longer the nights of sneaking out of windows.
Going for drives at midnight in the car you got on your sixteenth birthday,
Or making out on the hood of said car under the desert sky that was riddled with stars and the milky way.

No matter how badly I want to relive you, to open all your doors and explore your halls once more, to let you set me on fire one more time.

I can't bring myself to make a home within you again.
For I've learned to love, and I've learned to let go.
Some fires are just meant to burn out to ash.
