“You don’t have to go, you know.” Jorge said worriedly to MJ.

“I am going; Carmen invited me.” MJ said while applying a maroon lipstick on her lips. "The least I can do is honour her invitation." She pouted her lips, making sure that she applied her lipstick well.

“But-” Jorge tried to argue, but she cut him off.

She turned around to face him. “Jorge, we are the Billings, and we don’t-”

“Disappoint.” He heaved a sigh and finished off for her.

They were currently in MJ’s room, preparing for Logan and Carmen’s engagement party. MJ was wearing a long maroon cocktail dress that reached her toes, and white heels, and tied her curly hair to the side.

Jorge, on the other hand, was wearing black skinny jeans, a black shirt, and a grey jacket.

“Ready?” Anita peeked through the door, grabbing both their attention. She was wearing a knee-length red dress, black heels, and had let her hair fall on her shoulders.

“Yes.” MJ nodded. “You look beautiful.” She said.

MJ seemed to have found her speech after the whole encounter at the office.

“Not as beautiful as you.” Anita chuckled, and Jorge rolled his eyes.

“You both look beautiful.” Jorge said and headed for the door. “Come on, we don’t want to be late; the Dos Santos and Petersen said they will meet us there.” He walked out of the room and they both followed him.

About an hour later, they were parking in front of Logan’s mansion.

A person could tell from afar that the house was enormous; there was no doubt about it. MJ wondered what the use of having such a big house was if he was going to live alone.

MJ had her collection of houses in different countries, most of which belonged to Jorge, but none of them could compare to Logan’s house. Maybe if she had settled like Logan did, staying in Cape Town all his life; she would have had a house compared to his. But she was MJ Billings, and she could not settle down for too long without moving to another place.

Logan’s yard was packed with cars and yet the flowers and fountain still stood out, illuminated by huge lights on the walls. “This house is huge!” Anita said in awe, stunned at the sight of the mansion as they made their way to the entrance where a few guards stood.

They entered the house and were greeted by even more mesmerizing beauty. As if the outside was not enough, the inside was covered in expensive marbles and the colour brown seemed to be a trend. The house looked like a castle.

The place was filled with people everywhere. They were not dressed too fancy or underdressed, and yet they managed to look good. It was clear that Carmen just invited people for the sake of having people at the party, no matter the size.

MJ was quite sure that neither she nor Logan knew half of the people present.

“Meu cadelas!” Jameson appeared with four glasses of champagne and handed them to the three new arrivals.

“Thanks.” They all said.

No matter how many times Jorge had come to Logan’s house, he still could not get used to its beauty. He loved everything about the house, even the rooms he had never been into. But that was just Jorge Billings; he loved anything and everything nonhuman more than he loved human beings themselves because they were incapable of hurting his feelings or breaking his heart.

MJ kept looking around, searching for Logan or Carmen. With the masses of people, she was starting to regret coming, she did not like crowds at all; something she would have laughed about back in high school.
