Elizabeth’s Point of View

I pushed my blonde braid off of my shoulder and looked away. This woman scared me. “But, who is she?”  I wondered to myself. “Why is she so familiar looking?” I tried my best to keep my eyes off her, but they kept finding their way back. I stared hard at her face. Just as something in my mind was beginning to click, I heard Tom speak as he began his opening speech for today’s meeting. “Hello, kids!” Tom said, a huge smile spreading across his face. “Hello, Tom!” We all yelled back, giggling all the while.

The dark girl stayed silently by the door, just looking at us all. She seemed confused. I noticed that she continually would look at me too. We made eye contact only once, and my heart dropped. Those eyes. I know those eyes. But from where? I thought to myself, the knot in my stomach feeling larger with every passing second. No. That can’t be. It’s not her. I’m probably just imagining things. Listen to what Tom says, you will feel better. I continued thinking to myself.

“We have someone new joining us today. You, over there, do you mind sharing with us some details on why you’re here? Well, first off, what is your name?” Tom questioned, making the woman look uncomfortable. “Um.. uh.. My name is Kara.” She stated while looking directly at me, and I instantly knew she was lying. “Kara Morris.” She said once again, but this time with more confidence. “And why are you here Kara? Tell us your story.” Tom pressed on. “Uh, well, it’s kind of a long story.” She began, still looking at me now and then, with a puzzled look on her face.

“We have time. You can tell us about it.” Tom continued. I watched as the dark girl looked at me, her eyes becoming big with fear and realization. ‘Kara’, just shook her head slowly. “Not today.” She whispered, barely audible as tears began to fall freely down her cheeks.

I then instantly knew. “Melissa?” I croaked.

Melissa’s Point of View

“....Well, first off, what is your name?” Tom, the nerdy looking guy holding the guitar, asked me. Crap, I thought. I need a name. “Um.. uh.. My name is Kara.” I said, silently scolding myself after hearing my voice crack. No one would believe me. “Kara Morris.” I said once again with more confidence.

I continuously look over to the young girl, no older than 16, who keeps staring at me. She had long blonde hair that was pulled to the side in a braid. Her blue eyes constantly staring into my green ones. Something about her made my stomach churn. I know her.

“And why are you here Kara? Tell us your story.” Tom pressed on, interrupting my thoughts. “Uh, well, it’s kind of a long story.” I state absentmindedly, wanting to continue figuring out who the blonde girl was. “We have time. You can tell us about it.” Tom continued, starting to annoy me.

That’s when I realize who it is. Elizabeth. My baby sister. She is sitting right there. I let the tears fall rapidly down my face. I shook my head, but kept my eyes on my baby sister. “Not today.” I whisper, surprising myself that I actually got the words out of my mouth.

“Melissa?” Elizabeth asked, tears forming at the brim of her eyes as looked at me.
