Melissa’s Point of View
“It’s… Nice!” I say, shocked at my new realization for my sisters love for purple. “Very… Very… Purple.” I say once again, scanning the room one last time. “You don’t like it, do you?” Elizabeth asks, disappointment showing through her eyes. “No, no!! I love it! I just didn’t know you liked purple so much!” I reply, hoping to return the happiness to her eyes. Fortunately, it appeared quite quickly, along with her smile which spread from ear to ear. “ I looove purple, Melissa.” She giggles. “I’ll be right back. I need to use the little girls room!” Elizabeth says, skipping out of the room. I walk around the room, glancing at all the pictures she has hung up. There were so many pictures of her with her friends. I smiled, looking at the pictures of her and Bo on top of some mountain. She had the biggest smile on her face.
I revert my gaze to a small purple notebook sitting next to her pictures. I pick it up, only to watch something slide out of the front and onto the floor in front of me. I quickly look down, wondering what it could be. Looking at the faces in the picture in front of me, I slowly slide to the floor. I grasp the photo tightly in my hands, never wanting to let it go. The crumpled photo that I held in my hands showed a picture of a smiling young girl, her hair a beautiful milk chocolate brown. She was holding hands with a young woman, maybe in her twenties. She was beautiful, with long blond hair and piercing blue eyes. The woman was smiling lovingly at a handsome man holding a baby. The young man had the same color hair as the young girl, and shared the same blue eyes. The baby was asleep, but you could still see small strands of curly blond hair poking out of her hat.
I smiled as a stray tear escaped my eyes and fell on the floor before me. I stare at the photo, memories rushing back to me all at once. Elizabeth was just a baby. That was the summer before everything happened.
Annie and David Frost.
I stared at my parents faces in the picture, looking at how happy they looked. If they were still here, would we still be the picture perfect family?
