Elizabeth’s Point of View
I stare back at Melissa with deep confusion. Did she just throw her phone out the window? Why would she do that? Ya, I have fights on my phone sometime, but I don’t throw it out freaking window!! “What th- Why would you do that?” I ask, completely stumped by her actions. “That was the only way that Rebecca could reach me.” She stated, almost too calmly. Her statement gets me thinking… what happened to her these past few years? Why does she seem so dark and disturbed? Why did she hate her foster mother so much, that she would throw away all contact with her? “Oh, okay.” I finally reply, saving the longer conversation for a different time.
Melissa’s Point of View
Flashback:
“Lissa, do I look okay?” My sweet baby sister, Elizabeth asks, looking up at me with her big blue eyes. “Yes, you look wonderful! First day of 6th grade. Are you excited?” I reply, a huge smile plastered on my face. “Definitely! I can’t wait!” She exclaimed. “Are you excited for your first day of sophomore year?” “Very!” I lied. Nobody can know about us. They would take her away from me, and I could never let that happen.
End of flashback.
“So what do you want to do when we get back to the house?” Elizabeth asks, pulling me out of my thoughts. “Uhh, eat?” I say, my stomach grumbling on cue. “Good plan. Do you eat as much as you used to? I mean, not to be offensive or anything, but you are really skinny now.” Elizabeth says, scanning my body. “Ya, I still eat a lot.” I lied. I haven’t eaten much in a long time. I’m afraid to talk to Lizzy about what has happened to me these past couple years, seeing as how she has done so well with coping. I might scare her off...
