The flight didn’t seem to take as long as she would have thought

The flight didn’t seem to take as long as she would have thought. It was pleasantly short—albeit she did sleep most of the plane ride. She had anticipated the move to South Korea for a whole week. Meaning; she started living life like she was back in Korea. So when the plane took off, it was well into her already used to sleeping time.

Yerim walked out of the terminal, wondering who exactly was going to pick her up. She was going to be staying with an old family friend. Her heart raced in anticipation of seeing him again. Of course, there were other people she wanted to see. Mainly her closest friends. She felt lucky, having grown up in a neighborhood with all her friends nearby. She was the youngest of them all, making her be the closest to the second youngest of the group.

“Yah! Kim Yerim!”

She turned at the sound of her name being yelled by a voice she missed. It wasn’t that they didn’t keep in contact. When she moved to London for her father’s job, five years ago, she made a promise to come back for her high school years. Considering everyone else was older—majority of them were in their college years or ready to serve in the military. She smiled, seeing the always bright and smiling Park Sooyoung or Joy as they called her. Joy was waving at her, bouncing up and down. Yerim’s eyes wandered to the boy next to her who was scowling at the girl before he pulled her arms down and made her stop in a huff.

She hurried towards then, catching the last bit of Joy pouting and whining. “Why can’t I be happy to see my friend who I love like a sister?”

“You’re an embarrassment.”

“No one told you to stand by me. You could have waited in the car!” Joy stomped her foot down before spinning around to see her approaching. “Wahh, Kim Yerim you have grow to be even prettier than I remember. Stop it! This isn’t fair of you. I’ve missed your face.”

Joy engulfed her in a hug, one she returned with a happy smile. She looked at the boy behind Joy, he was mumbling something she couldn’t understand but his icy glare was directed at Joy. When Joy pulled back, Yerim looked around for another face she was expecting to see, after all, they used to be a group of four, sometimes five, whenever they spent time together.

“He was busy with practice. He couldn’t make it.” Yerim smiled as Taehyung walked up to her and pulled her into a hug.

Kim Taehyung, her next door neighbor along with his brother Kim Seokjin. They were the talk of the school. Two attractive males that would make any girl swoon. She was lucky enough to be in their life and close to them. The only other girl who they were close to was Joy. But Taehyung and Joy bickered like night and day. She wasn’t sure when it started. Maybe it was when they were younger and Taehyung thought it would be a good idea to dump a bucket of ice water on Joy as they played in the park. It started a war where one would prank the other. Yerim was actually surprised to see them together.
