The last thing he wanted was to see her cry

The last thing he wanted was to see her cry. Yet, that was the first thing he saw when he walked into her home that afternoon after school.

Their normal life, whatever was called normal, had changed the moment the news broke. It was as if the galaxies were telling him that starting a relationship with Sooyoung was done at a bad time. Jungkook having gone missing was affecting them all in different ways. He watched as Hoseok walked aimlessly around the café, running into table and chairs. Seokjin wasn't paying attention as he walked down the stairs at home, missing a step and stumbling down. Now his brother was tending to a sprained ankle. Namjoon would babble on in incoherent words. Yoongi was quieter than ever and Jimin reacted in anger. Anger towards everything and everyone.

He wasn't surprised when his mother told him he would need to cover Sooyoung's shift. He did with no hesitation, making all his friends and brother give him an odd look. Taehyung ignored them and only thought about how Yerim was acting weird. The news had affected her and that day, as she walked in to grab food from the café before going home, she was oddly chipper. There was this amused look in her eyes and he could have sworn she was mumbling to herself. If that was her way of hiding her worry, he was not going to ask.

Sooyoung on the other hand, was not good at hiding. She worried for Yerim, she worried for Jungkook and part of him felt jealous. Out of all of them, she was the only one that Jungkook remained close to. Everyone else, drifted and they drifted because from the moment Mingyu and SinB entered his life, he changed. They had changed him and none of them liked the persona Jungkook had. Sooyoung was the only one who didn't treat him differently. There were many times he would go looking for her, knowing she was hiding in her parents' home whenever upset, and find that Jungkook would be there with her. Being asked by her parents if he was staying for dinner once more.

In reality, it should not have been surprising to see Sooyoung sitting on one of the stools in her kitchen, crying. She hadn't even heard him enter the code and walk in. It was his first time over to her shared apartment with Seulgi and Wendy, alone. She had giving him the pass code, why? He didn't know and he wasn't going to complain. The more time passed, he couldn't help but to think that maybe she liked him more than she let on. Giving him the pass code was one example—not that he disliked it. It gave him courage to be open with how he felt for her. Sooyoung only looked up when he stood beside her, patting her back. She quickly hugged him as she used his chest to cry.

"How long have you been crying?" he whispered once her tears died down and he helped wipe her face as she sniffled. Her lips were red and swollen from her tears, her eyes rimmed red.

"I don't know. I'm a mess. I'm so worried. Jungkook has never done this."

"JK could though." he only meant it as a joke but she still glared.

"Jungkook and JK are not that much different. He's only like that because you know his mother didn't allow for us to tell him about Yerim and you know Mingyu fed him lies."
