it was spring and the flowers were awake and bright. the energy they radiated was prevalent in the color display as it stretched for miles. if conversation between finn and millie came to a halt at any point, they enjoyed the sight set ahead of them, and that was enough for the two.
finn soon shared some of his work with millie, and she shared some of her favorite reads with finn.
"what were you thinking about when you drew this?" millie asked curiously, fingers barely tracing the detailed image on the paper.
"it was sort of a rough point in my life when i realized i had no clue what i wanted to do with my life and nothing made sense to me, kind of like how this drawing turned out," finn replied.
they were at the meadow for only a mere twenty minutes before the cloudy weather caught up and began providing water for the fresh budding flowers.
finn and millie ran to the road where they always parked, but millie had parked feather down than finn so he told her to hop in his car."did any of your pages get ruined?" millie asked worriedly. finn flipped through the pages of his sketchbook and shook his head.
"no, they're all fine." he smiled. they chuckled for a moment at the unfortunate weather for them, but fortunate for the meadow. "do you want to grab something to eat? we can go through my drawings some more if you'd like"
"yeah, that sounds nice. we can go to the cafe i work at. it's close, and i can make a meal grilled cheese," she smiled. finn smiled and asked her to tell him where to go
when finn parked the car, he noticed the parking lot was completely empty except for one car. the sign on the door also said closed, but millie knocked on it.
david came to the door and immediately saw millie, but when finn came into his view he was smug. "and who is this, millie?" david asked with a smirk on his face turning to finn.
"this is finn, finn this is david. he owns this place," she smiled. david and finn shook hands, and david was happy. never had millie brought up any friends she may have had, and he was glad she didn't have her head in a book for once.
they all walked inside the cafe and millie took down two chairs that had been placed on top of the table as a process of cleaning. finn took one seat and set his sketchbook down while millie asked finn what he wanted to drink, but before he could reply david swooped in and told them that he would get them whatever they would like.
they both asked for tea at the same time and laughed. david smiled and made his way to retrieve their drinks.
millie asked a question about nearly each drawing and finn loved that. he was so glad that someone was so interested in his work, some having absolutely no meaning while others holding so much of him. she asked him about how long it took to complete some pieces and she asked about his mindset during some processes and she asked about the supplies he needed to finish some.
she was in awe. she was seeing pieces of finn's mind , and to her that was so powerful. when she was learning she felt her most empowered , and as they sat talking and drinking tea, david watched them and felt overjoyed by the sight of millie speaking so much. he had never seen her be more interested in speaking to someone than a book she suffocated herself with. he also saw something in her eyes that only sparked when she found a good book that consumed her attention more than customers and david had to remind her that the book would be there later.
"i never got to make you that grilled cheese," millie smiled knowing david wouldn't have let her and he would have insisted.
"i guess you owe me a millie-made grilled cheese," finn said with a smile as bright as millie's. as david witnessed their smiles he knew something was blossoming, and he hadn't yet learned that they met in the field millie held so dear to her heart where flowers slept and peace was ensured. their lips didn't move to allow words to escape, so their lips remained in the same smile and david felt the warmth spread throughout his body despite just being a bystander, so he knew that the warmth within them was scorching and would be everlasting.
